The Bridge House Bar & Dining Room
our review
A bright airy, restored old boozer with an uninterrupted view of Boris’s centre of operations over in Potter’s Field, the Bridge strikes a nice contrast against all the steel and glass being flung up all around. The downstairs bar does a good range of beers and you can tuck in to food at battered old tables or eat upstairs in the large dining room.
The menu has all a hungry office worker, young political android or passing tourist might want, with a range of daily pies and pastas, as well as a daily seasonal menu. Prices are particularly good so that a starter of Queen scallops with cauliflower puree came in at a very reasonable £5 or so, while a deeply flavoursome mix of white beans and chunky, spicy, oily chorizo stewed tomatoes and home made bread wasn’t a lot more.
The day’s Shepherd pie was all you could want, with a decent duvet of mash keeping the mince cosy and a good pile of peas all around. Jerk chicken had its skin on, a good thing, and the generous pile of smooth sweet potato went well.
No space for desserts, too full of lager, we went out thinking this place proved that getting out of the office for a little bit longer than it takes to buy a soggy sandwich, would probably do all the local workers some good and get them back in touch with reality and relaxation. Oh and the Bridge does a great ‘bangers and mash evening’ every Monday for those not rushing for the train back to Bromley.

This is a terrific little place, where my girlfriend and I eat at least once a fortnight.
Tucked away on the south side of Tower Bridge (and surely quieter for not being on the main drag below), the room is clean, modern and very welcoming and the staff are young, sweet and professional. Food is, I suppose, best described as contemporary British. The menu changes frequently and is always accurately cooked and exceptionally tasty with a range of soups, fish, meat and good desserts. Sourcing all seems to be local, with Borough Market produce cropping up frequently.
An ideal local. If you find it, though, just keep it to yourself.
