The meal was delicious with the bill coming to less than we expeced, cheaper then the day before at another chinese.

After being concerned that one would have to pay over the odds for the supposedly best duck in town, the prices were reasonable - even cheap - and the experience unforgettable.

The peking duck had more meat on it and far less fat, it was crispy and was mouthwateringly tasty - the best duck we have ever had.

I find it very strange and somewhat offensive that someone would suggest that customer service in Hong Kong is rude and abrupt. Fast paced YES, but it is not acceptable in any restaurant for such a lousy service as HK continues to provide.

I believe the point that previous reviewers were trying to get across is that the customer service in HK Diner is quite close to ZERO. It is not about 'getting what you pay for' because quite frankly, you would get much better service from McDonalds!

I agree with the reviewer below, Susan. This is more of an informal cafe style place for Chinese food (not Japanese as this website says in brackets!) If you want to eat in a "proper" restaurant..this is not the place for you.

Its fast and direct..just the right place to go if its a quick bite you want. Most dishes are relatively cheap and when you come here, you wouldnt expect to stay for hours! Its more of an eat and go place.

The reviews below are funny because in saying the waiters are rude, they do not realise this abrupt fast paced service is very traditional of most restaurants in Hong Kong.

If you are after a tranquil, slow paced, very polite evening I suggest you go elsewhere and pay upwards of £50. What is great about HKD is the fast service, the delicious food and the no frills atmosphere.

It's the perfect Thursday night quick Chinese fix with a mate after work over a couple of Tsing Tao's. The crispy duck pancakes are some of the best I've had in London, the food is consistenty tasty and fast. The whole experience will take under an hour and the bill will be around £35 for two people including a few drinks.

i eat here twice a week, it's such a favourite and a fantastic location to meet people after work and still be home by 9pm. It's also very clean, the food is always fresh with a huge turnover of customers daily.

Enjoy it for what it is!

Appalling service from the moment I stepped foot in HK diner. The manager rudely beckoned with his index finger and TOLD a friend and I to: “sit here”, at a damp, Demostos bleach scented table with no menus provided (we had to wait a further 10 minutes before they were brought over to us). We put it down to the stress of a busy evening…. How wrong we were!

We had tickets to see a show in 1.5 hours so wanted something relatively quick and easy. I ordered a mixed meat with fried noodles and an iced red bean drink. My friend who is of Islamic faith ordered fried noodles with mixed vegetables. She asked the waiter is he could ask the chef to kindly omit rice-wine from the dish and if he could add some chilli oil to it. The waiter replied: “it don’t taste right without rice-wine and we don’t add chilli. There’s chilli sauce on the table”. The waiter reluctantly obliged to inform the chef , not to add any rice wine after my friend spent10 minutes of trying to explain to him that he does not consume alcohol of any kind.

The meal arrived 20 minutes later. It was bad enough that our noodles were burnt. They were also and the meat/veg were far too salty. After attempting to finish our meal (it’s not good to waste food even if it is truly terrible), my drink still had not materialised and we asked. We waited 15 minutes and still no one shows up with the bill. We decided that they have wasted enough of our time and paid for our meal at the front desk and reminding them to minus the red bean drink from the bill. They even had the cheek to ask if we would like to leave a tip. The answer was of course NO!

There are plenty of good restaurants in and around Chinatown. Avoid HK diner at all costs. The staff are rude, ignorant and insensitive to other cultures. It just isn’t worth the time or money.

Went to london for short break ended up in hk diner, turned out to be the pretty ugly for a chinese restaurant. Wouldnt advise anyone to go for a proper experience of chinese food. Also the customer service was poor, due to the fact they were basically kicking us out by giving us the bill straight after the main!

Very casual and low key restraurant in China Town with no interior decoration whatsoever, but the food is delicous and it's good value for money. Not a palce to bring your guests or a place to go for a special occasion as it lacks splendor/formality/ambience..but worth the visit if you are around the town and feel like some nice chinese food (not the kind of Soho chinese buffet type of rubbish..)

Its hot & sour soup is arguably one of the best in London although its taste tends to change slightly each time I visit. Service is fast (almost too fast sometimes ) and the waitress is prompt. It is about 25 GBP for two people on a decent casual meal. Lots of chinese people around..
