La Mazorca

I wrote a review of this restaurant in February 2007. Since then, the establishment called "La Mazorca" has changed hands, and is now called "Amazónica", although the menu has remained the same.
I should like to completely withdraw my previous recommendation of what is now "Amazónica". I have been there a few times since the changeover, at various times of day and night. I have been there when the restaurant was almost empty, and I have been there when it has been full to heaving. In all cases, the service was atrocious (although always polite), and the food varied from "so-so" to "inedible".
I don't know who is running things at "Amazónica", but I wish that she / he would get to grips with service and cooking that ranges from "indifferent" to "never again".
I am sad to see such negative changes affecting a restaurant that I used to hold in very high regard, for it used to offer good-quality "home" cooking at non-inflated prices and with cheerful service. All that has been lost.

Disappointing. The food took forever to arrive and was served in dribs and drabs so our party (10 of us) weren't eating together. Food was very average.
Sorting out the bill seemed to take ages and the prices we ended up with were too high. Good value? I don't think so

Dear London-eating urged by such high reviews I took the risk of inviting 3 friends to this highly rated eatery. Having now experinced a "Colombian restaurant" for the first time, I am deeply shocked and ashamed of having invited my friends to what I found to be excetionally disatisfactory and in no way a fair representation of the high score achieved in this site.
The food was generous in portion atrocious in quality and presentation. I would not consider the typically Colombian dish, that we ordered, "Picada", not suitable for a dog. Left overs, fried to a point of making the meat uneadible, black and unchewable. I am sure you are not responsible for the previous reviews I can only immagine that they have been so unfortunate in their life to never have enjoyed a proper meal of good quality in a decent restaurant.
I would therefore score the food 2 to be generous, the ambience 4, the service 3. The overall quality 1.

I have dined at La Mazorca for a number of years now, many times in the company of friends from Colombia and from other parts of Ibero-America. All my fellow diners, regardless of national / ethnic origin, have been unstinting in their praise of the cuisine, the service, and the ambience. I have had Colombian friends class the cuisine as being just as good as "home cooking", which is possibly the highest praise. Beware: if you fancy "una bandeja paisa" or "un churrasco argentino", then DO NOT have a starter, for the portions of all dishes (starters and main courses alike) are extremely generous. La Mazorca deserves to go from strength to strength.

I found this restaurant on this site and visited based on the good reviews. I can confirm them in every way.
I took my brother as a birthday treat with his South American wife and their 2 year old daughter. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. They were also very accommodating of such a small child and there were other children in the restaurant. The plates were overflowing with good quality food which my brother’s wife confirmed as authentic and made her feel very much at home. It was a real chance for us to try something different too instead of stereotypical dishes. We all had a great time, it was nice to see other children around for our niece but it certainly didn’t make it feel like a kids’ restaurant - we can’t wait to go back on our own and check out the salsa dancing later on in the evening. We were a little disappointed to find the cocktails menu is not currently available but it didn’t spoil our evening, the staff introduced us to some of their Columbian firewater instead!

Loved the food the service was fantastic & just as our meal finished two dj's turned up & absolutley rocked the place!
They played hip hop reggeton some club classics & a touch of reggae! The service was wicked I know i said that allready but seriously the service was so good i had to mention it twice!
The portions were huge & very fairly priced.
Make the effort to come to this resturant, its well worth the visit!
I recomend a thursday or a saturday! thursday was the night i went & evidently on a saturday they do salsa dancing.

I first went to La Mazorca about 4 years ago, and I still love it. I was introduced by my Colombian friends, people I love going round to dinner for cos the food is amazing! So when they brought me here, I didn't know what to expect from a latino *restaurant*. It was great; I had my favourite dish, sancocho, and it was fantastic. And such good value! A huuuge dish accompanied by rice, salad, plantain... all yummy, and not expensive at all. Now I can't eat much in one sitting, but I nearly finished the lot, and that really means something for me! I even managed to follow with some brevas con arequipe (I'm not big on figs, but I love arequipe). Basically, go there :)

I thought the food was great. I am Colombian and I haven't had food that good since I was living in Colombia. The portions were huge, I had the mini-bandeja (which was very large). I went on a Sunday and it was pretty empty.
It was a great meal and wasn't very expensive.

I really like La Mazorca for its nice Comlombian feeling and the SO yummy Empanadas. If you want to eat a 3 courses meal, 1 Empanada is largely enough to start with as the main course protions are rather large. The only reproach is for the local clientele who doesn't seem to give you a chance if you can't dance Salsa well!! Also, yes, a tiny bit more light could be nice! Go and Enjoy it!
