La Perla

I ate two nights ago at this restaurant. It was abominable. The chips were stale and the salsa acidic. My margherita did not taste as it should have (though how you can screw up a margherita that badly I don't know) My burrito was tough, tasteless and the vegetables inside were raw - there was a tiny dollop of sour cream and guacamole on top (it should have been inside). My companion's pork loin was not cooked inside! The service was poor and my ownly positive comment was that the manager was apologetic and did not charge us for our drinks, when we said we were leaving. I am not a fussy eater but I've lived in

California, where $5 gets you a plate of huge, good Mexican food. La Perla was terrible. Eat there at your peril.

I have become used to being disappointed in Mexican places in London, but this was pushing it a bit. The salsa that came with the chops was the best part of the meal. The rest was a disappointment. You can not microwave an enchilada, you just can't. The margarita was okay.

The place may not look that attractive from the outside (tough competition from swanky Jewel) but it's really worth trying. There's a good selection of cocktails and happy hour every day. The food is very nice. The manager and the Italian waiter are very attentive and friendly.

I use this restaurant/bar as a regular meeting place. It has a good atmosphere, the food has always been good when I have been and they do a good Pina Colada.
