This was our third visit to Mantra, and the experience keeps getting better. Both my wife and myself are huge fan of Japanes cuisine and have dined in some of the best Japanese restaurants in London, Mantra has to rate in my top 5 Japanese restaurants to date.

The staff though profesional are very friendly and polite and take great care to ensure we're always looked after. I Mantra would recomend to anyone.

I did not have a good experience in this restaurant. My friend and I went there for lunch, the restaurant opened late, we were the only ones there and yet we had to wait a long time for the food to come. They took the order wrong, when we pointed that out, the waiter changed it, but he took the wrong order again! As we had already waited such a long time we just took it. The noodles tasted ok but the chicken was dry, the portion was small. As a person who knows quite a lot about japanese food, I think the food was far too over-priced. The worst of all was that the bill was totally wrong, they charged us £6.95 for sashimi when we only had 1 sushi of £2, the soft drinks were supposed to be £1.30 on the menu and they charged us £2.90!! We just lost hope by then, when I told the waiter the mistakes he had made, he told me it was because those drinks we ordered were not on the computer system, so he just billed us for something similar. How very ridiculous. Then we had to go through the bill with him again and waited for him to write down each item on a piece of paper and recalculate. We thought that was it, but no, the boss had to come out and went through the whole thing all over again. He explained that the waiter was new but frankly he should have been trained properly before allowing to work.

The food was ok but I definitely would not go there ever again, for the price they charge, one can get a lot better than that!

This Japanese restaurant opened in St. Albans 4 months ago. I've been twice and taken people who are not used to eating Japanese who enjoyed it. The "Hot Rolls" are excellent, rice is good, Maki is average, the Sashimi not great, the Starters and Tempuras excellent, and the Mains seem good so far. Decor is lovely. Prices are OK for most things, though the wine list is poor value. Better value than many Japanese restaurants I've been to in the past. Overall recommended.

Set in the heart of St. Albans dining district, this intimate Japanese restaurant is the best find outside of London. Food was excellent, service friendly but efficient and the ambience was buzzing. Definitely will be returning with friends.

Fantastic little gem of a restaurant. Delectable food, friendly but professional service and a great ambience. This is what St. Albans was missing. I definitely will be returning.
