Dexters - Clapham
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
On a quiet night we went to the ex-Tootsies now Dexters and tried their fare. First a lil' whinge, my partner and I are smokers, so under the big red awnings we obviously chose to sit outside. We were told no-smoking due to some regulation even though people at Newtons over the road and Cafe Rouge next door happily allowed people to smoke under the same conditions.
Aside from that, we're talking about food here... it was a quiet night for them as most restaurants tend to be in Abbeville Road (which might I say is a definite bonus) we started with a main Salt n Chilli Squid to share, and it was okay, except for the greater proportion of it being the tentacles and not the squid booty itself. The steaks were awesome, as they should be for an establishment priding itself on being a grill. The service was nice, not in your face yet not particularly congenial either.
For dessert was nice, cheesecake a winner, but don't indulge in the tempation of one of those massive 'share a parfait' types for two, it was a sickly mess I could've concocted at home with canned whipped cream and Weet-a-bix. Wine list OK, decor actually quite slick and the staff seemed to be killing time til closing, yet that's not their fault as there really wasn't anyone there.
Not rubbish but not worthy of pinning a badge on.
