This has to be if not the best, then one of the top 3 restaurants in London. It is as close to faultless as any restaurant I've eaten in.
The room is simple and lovely, the food is extraordinarily good and the wine list is a lesson to other restaurants in not being greedy with mark ups
I've been telling all my friends to eat here and the only negative thing I've heard anyone say is that they have paper tablecloths (although it makes sense if you have any of the dishes to share)
And if that is the only thing anyone can find wrong with somewhere, then it has to be pretty damn good! I can't recommend this place highly enough

Great ambience with high ceilings, wooden floors, table cloths and a bar behind which the wine selection was beautifully arranged. One of the healthiest buzzs I ve heard (not too noisy, not too silent-probably an indication of the good table arrangement). Service and food wasn't perfect but inspired.
The whole package is definately to be recommended and I d definately go again for its charm and unpretentious elegance.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's Day, and despite being roughly 10 minutes late for our booking, they had no quibbles about it whatsoever, and still made us feel welcomed. Service, ambience, and food especially, were all fantastic. Starters through to desserts were all faultless. Highly recommended.

One of the best restaurants in London. A favourite of mine and reserved for special occasions. The food is delicous, served up in ample portions and arranged with care. The fois gras is a delight, the meat, tender and succulent... and if you have room, the puddings are scrumptious.
Food aside, the atmosphere is intimate and cosy, the lighting and decor makes you feel like it is a very special evening. The staff are polite, friendly and in-obtrusive, and there is no one rushing you out the door.
If you are planning a treat, then this is the place to do it. It is really worth the money, and even so it isn't so expensive for what you get.
I am going again for my birthday and I can't wait.
Thank you Magdalen!

I had been meaning to try this place for a long time. My son took me there for my birthday last week.
There were four of us and we all started with an excellent potted crab. Two of us then shared a roast pheasant and two had an excellent lamb dish, all of which were very good indeed.
Only two of us had desserts: I had some gingerbread ice cream, excellent and my son had the famous French toast with plum sauce and ice cream. We all tasted both desserts, and the French toast was an absolute winner.
This really is a very good friendly restaurant, and we had a very good time and would return again.

This place is a very rare find in London.
Fantastic, well thought out food, polite staff, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere.
My friend and i had a delicious, relaxing meal here last week and can't wait to go back. If you're a meat lover this place if for you.
Try it you won't be disappointed.

After attempting to book at several west end restaurants without success I had the fortune to remember this gem in London Bridge. The food was sublime and so was the wine. The French toast dessert with plum jam and ice cream sounds so simple but I can't remember ever having anything better. Left me feeling very pleased with my decision.

Thank goodness we've finally got a fantastic restaurant in SE1.
My partner and I ate here on Monday night, the place was buzzy, nearly full and the staff were extremely pleasant.
For a starter I had pumpkin soup which was out of this world, my partner had potted crab which was delicious and extremely generous. For main I had a delicious braised hair leg which just fell off the bone, my partner had lamb shank which was extremely tasty.
We shared a very generous cheese plate to finish and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
If you like good, unusual, expertly cooked food this place is a must!

Value for money seems to be a particular issue on london eating at the moment - so ....first things first, 4 of us ate 3 excellent courses and enjoyed a bottle of wine and two glasses of champagne (total, not each!) for £45 each with service. Which makes this, without doubt, one of the best value meals of its kind I've eaten in a long time.
The food was excellent - two starters of potted crab were simple and generous and my friend who had a mushroom soup thought it was the best she had ever eaten. All the mains (lamb, rabbit, garlic scallops and vegetarian pie) and puddings were also delicious. I hadn't realised 2 of my friends were vegetarian when booking and I noticed that their choices were very limited indeed. It's not something I've thought about before but it seems to me that this is a shortcoming that needs to be addressed....Perhaps not just at Magdalen though.
The decor was warm and comforting but the service was a little hit and miss. I had to call them over to take our order and go to find a waitress to get the bill. I think this probably needs to be worked on a little. All in all a good eating experience and I got the impression that the cooking would be consistently great with generous portions.
