Went along for the buffet - very decent. You can go up multiple times so there's no pressure to just pile things up as high as you can. Staff friendly and attentive. Really nice selection of hot starters (fluffy bhajis, spicy potatoes, fried cassava) along with some interesting mains - banana curry etc. Value for money pretty good (buffet on a Saturday evening around £14, cheaper at lunchtimes). The tables aren't crowded together and the decor is pleasant. I'd definitely go back even though I'm not a vegetarian.

Dhai Puri that Mr B writes about is meant to be bland. Rest of his comments are purely his opinion. Opinion not to be relied on. A long standing regular.

Went there with parents to celebrate their silver jubilee. Ordered the starters, they were not really great. Dahi puri had a lot of onions in it, the highest onion content Ive seen in any dish so far (3/10). Next came main course, so we decided for a change and ordered their highly publicised Masala dosa and the potato curry was too dry to eat and the actual dosa was crisp (3/10). At the same time we ordered some curry and naan which was good (7/10). In the end we ordered ice cream which was great (8/10).

Service is fast (8/10) Atmosphere is top class (8/10) Sadly, the restaurant can be a bit pricey for people who are not rich, £20 pp (6/10 on value)

The restaurant does need to improve its food if they have to compete with other Indian restaurants in Finchley.

My family lives a half hour drive from Rani and there are many restaurants nearer to us that we could go to. However, we are unanimous in our belief that Rani is the best vegetarian restaurant in London and we will go out of our way to eat there as often as possible (several times a year, not bad going as we are a large family). The food is second to none, whether you order a la carte or from the copious buffet. The service is always polite, discrete and attentive. You can return to the buffet as many times as you like and are provided with a clean plate each time, unlike many other places. There is an excellent range for vegans and things are clearly labelled so that people with allergies know what they can and can't eat. Their coriander chutney is the best I have ever tasted and their starters are so good that I have to remind myself to leave room for the excellent main courses! The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, with Indian music playing quietly in the background, and the decor is attractive. We just can't fault this place and that is why, year in year out, this is the place we choose to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, job offers, any excuse we can think of to treat ourselves to a meal here.
