Louis Hungarian Patisserie

I personaly think the restaurant is superb. I have been frequenting Louis regularly for over 30 years now. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere. It is a comfortable place, the food is good and the staff are friendly and efficient. I appreciate there used to be more Hungarian dishes under the old management and has now become somewhat more Polish so perhaps it's lost it's identity a little but that doesn't really matter so much as I love both cuisines and I love Poland. The ambiance and setting is very reminiscent of actually being in Hungary at the time of the regime during the 1960's. I go there most weekends so that I can hear the wonderful pianist tinkle the ivories playing some of my favourite classical tunes. The only reservation I have is that the restaurant is open much later that it used to be and in a way has lost its exclusivity. Additionally, there is a lovely new bar downstairs which is not officially opened yet so has to be advertised in order that the word gets around.

I recently visited the restaurant and its more polish then hungarian. Apart from gulyas soup I could not find anything hungarian in the menu (the soup was ok) they had no hungarian wine and the cakes were mostly english. The waiter had no idea what is a gerbaue or a somloi galuska.
After all the decor is good you really feel like in the 70s in budapest or somewhere behind the iron curtain. the food is good and the pianist is excellent so i would recommend the place, but pls dont call it a hungarian restaurant...

I disagree with Monika , the food there is very good , home made with plenty choices of East European specialities .
Now with good selection of wines . The portions are big and represent very good value for money with £10 you can fully enjoy . The clasic design from 60 create very fine atmosphere , piano play at weekends gives extra charm.
Friendly service . Overall i would strongly recomend to visit the cafe with bar base in the ground floor.

I think its too expensive .3pound a slice of cake.I realy miss the cabbage roll and wider choice of cake selection. The atmosphere is excellent but no one spoke hungarian whenever I was there. I cant belive that they cant find hungarian waitresses. Its a shame. The extra sugar syrup on the sweet cheese bag (turos taska)is not a good idea.

The Hunagrian Confectionary in Hapmstead was a great pleasure to visit.
As i am also coming from hungarian catering family it really felt hungarian being there. the coffe was delicious and so was the chestnut cake, real traditional taste. the atmosphare was lovely, like in the 70's Budapest. one of the waitresses was hungarian and also some customers.
very pleasant experience all together including the modest pricing. i shall definately be back.
