Piccolino (Heddon St)

A great restaurant. Booked our Christmas lunch here and we were made very welcome. A few of our team were running late due to work commitments so we sat down 2 hours later than booked, then had another few join us later. This was no problem and all the party were catered for. All staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Will definitely come back here again.

Very similar experience to reviewer Michal - WAITER SERVICE BAD + RUDE.

Visited Saturday evening 12-Nov-2011. I was a guest of a party of 5. The party organiser pre-booked online, and we arrived on time. We were shown to our table, a waiter with a plate of ham nearly bumped into my friend 'cos he couldn't be bothered to wait until my friend had walked through the door first. We had to call a waiter over after waiting 20mins to have our order taken. The waiter couldn't grasp that as there were 5 diners that there would be 5 Main Courses and not 4 Starters and 4 Mains. We repeated our order twice and he went away saying 5 Mains so we were mildly satisfied. When our Starters arrived they placed one at each end of the table instead of infront of the guests that had ordered Starters. The Mains came out and we ended up with 6 Mains (one being a larger portion of a Starter we had already eaten - this extra Main was returned to the kitchen).

When we had run out of wine my friend tried to attract the attention of an older gentleman in a suit (so assuming someone in charge) to order more wine, the 'Suit' just flipped his wrist at him and ignored us so we didn't get to order more wine. When paying the bill (which includes 12.5% service charge) we paid in cash, the waiter took the bill away and said "Do you want me to bring back the change?" - we thought that was quite rude 'cos he shouldn't have asked and just bring us the change. I wanted to complain but it turned out the 'Suit' was the man in charge and he was grumpy looking and was in conversation with one of the women in a balck suit, so we just left instead.

WOULDN'T RECOMMEND PICCOLINO - Service Awful and Food Average.

Rather upsetting experience due to the service, which didn't seem to be very much interested about saving us.

I have invited my brother for a Saturday lunch there and we generally enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the whole street even though the music from the external speakers was perhaps a bit too loud. The service however was not attentive at all or perhaps didn't really understand English well enough, guessing our questions before we finished them and in effect giving us completely wrong answers.

It started bad as we have been waiting for about 15 minutes for the initial orders to be taken. The waiter had an attitude of doing us a favour in taking them and inevitably he has made a mistake in his dessert order. It wouldn't be a problem as a replacement came rather swiftly, but he first started to argue with my guest that it was him who made a mistake and eventually tried to charge us for 3 desserts hoping we wouldn't have noticed it in the bill. In a meantime he has almost spilled wine over my guest making the glass spin on the table. Although I have asked to pay straight away, they have managed to keep us waiting another 15 minutes before the payment was taken. Even with the little mistakes we would have been pleased as we normally joke about those things but the waiter really made us feel in his way by just eating there which made the whole experience unpleasant and embarrassing!

Went here on a Friday night. Staff were rude. We got free drinks to compensate after complaining. The attitude of the wait staff didn't improve however. The waiters started to stack chairs up around us at the end of the night, banging into us while doing so. I will not be returning.

I went there on Saturday night with some friends and even though it was extremely busy the staff were really good and we did not have to wait long for our food. The atmosphere is really nice and it's not overly espensive. I will definitely be going back.

Disappointed... As the food was lovely but the staff were rude. Just make sure you pay the extortionate service charge or you may get called a few obscene names.

My girlfriend organised a surprise birthday party for me at Piccolino and I have to say that the staff were fantastic. They really pulled out the stops to make such an amazing evening possible - joining in with the game fo the surprise. The food was fantastic, full of taste and served with style.

This is definately a restaurant for either a special occasion or just an evening out with fine Italian cuisine.

Thank you Piccolino for such a great evening.

We use this place frequently on a lunch time and have to agree, staff and food are both great. The outside area is great for post work drinks, a guanteed seat in friendly surroundings!
