Glaister's Bar & Restaurant

Since my last review DB has left ,and Glaister's has sensibly reverted to it's old menu. Apart from the steak which is just a lump of grissle and fat (I sent mine back only to have it replaced by more grissle and fat), the food is quite good still and with the prices back to a more sensible £12.50 for 2 courses (from £27.50) and the wine list competitively priced, I'm quite keen on this place. DB has been replaced by the enigmatic Henri who is an excellent and efficient manager and is working on improving the menu further. He was quite upset when I told him that the Hummus was inedible, but so long as you steer clear of that, and of course the steak, I would recommend Glaisters to anyone.

Stephen Glaister has done well getting his new partner, "DB" on board. DB has certainly revolutionised the food which briefly became better value than the two popular restaurants opposite owned by John Brinkley. The trouble is that no doubt aware of the well deserved compliments, Glaisters prices have rocketed. A few weeks ago they did a superb 2 course lunch for around £11. My wife and I went there yesterday only to discover that the £11 lunch is now £27.50!! The size of the menu has shrunk dramatically too (very Gordon Ramsayish) and my wife couldn't find anything that she wanted-So sadly we left. DB and Stephen are both top guys and I really wish them well, but I hope they don't get above themselves by going too up market-but if they do I wish them every success.
