After tasting the Polish food for the first time whilst on a recent visit to Poland, I decided to explore the possibility of having a real Polish meal in London. So I went to Polanka with a group of friends and tried tripe soup, bigos and pierogi. No, not a portion of pierogi and bigos - that would be to much for one person, just 3 pieces with different stuffing from my friend's dish. The soup and the main course were excellent. An useful tip if you opt for any Polish soup - taste it first and then decide if you want more salt or seasoning in it. My soup didn't need any of this and was very tasty. Dessert in the form of pancakes filled with cheese and sultanas was delicious - a real treat. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed, staff friendly and polite. The bill was unexpectedly low.

I will be going back to POLANKA – definitely.

My husband and I went to Polanks after seeing the other reviews. Sadly I wish we hadn't bothered to travel across London. The waitress was lovely although when we asked her to explain the dishes she finished with "it's Polish and hard to explain" which didn't help. The red borsch was too salty for my taste, the white borsch okay. The bigos was unexciting but edible which is more than can be said for the klopsy (I think) which was bland and awful. I had been looking forward to the pancakes but those I saw served to others were soggy and uninspiring (those plates were taken away mostly uneaten). The decor was clean but boring although the mannequin in national costume stuffed in a niche was spooky! All the other customers seemed to be Polish so one could assume the food is authentic...unfortunately authenticity doesn't automatically equate with tasty. We left hungry and disappointed.
