Hing Loon

My boyfriend and I have been going to Hing Loon for the last 4 years and it is one of our favourite restaurants. It is inexpensive and if you pick the right things the food is lovely. They will also cook you up things that are not on the menu if you know what to ask for. The Squid with Chilli and Salt is fantastic as is the pork and bean hotpot. We have had the occasional disappointments when I think they have a different cook in, otherwise for the price in Town this is a great place to eat.

Yeah you chose the wrong stuff, I go to the Green Duck, sorry Hing Loon, for squid, pork belly, duck and crispy beef. And have done for years.

On vacation in UK from the USA, we were there last month before theater one evening. As food in Chinatown has become, like everything else in London, horrifically expensive, and as it is well nigh impossible to find even a set meal in Chinatown under 10 GBPs, we chose to eat here as their set meals were in the 7-9 GBP range. DON'T do it. The deep fried appetisers are OK but the main courses are tasteless, boring, and altogether awful. Those who have raved about the food here must be ***** sorry--but real connoiseurs of GOOD Chinese food would know better. The total including tip came to $35. In the US, you could have a superb meal at a good Chinese restaurant for that. But it seems one must pay more to get decent food in London.

We went to Hing Loon yesterday (me and my girlfreind)
We might have been expecting too much having read the different reviews...
The food was a bit disappointing for us. It had nothing to do with the real chinese food I know.(I've been working in China).
We might have choosen the wrong dishes though.(seasonnal vegetables, beef with black bean sauce and prawns in hot garlic sauce).
It's the kind of food yo might found at your chinese take away.

I've eaten regularly at the Hing Loon for the last 15 years and it is unvaryingly our favourite restaurant in London. We started eating here as a student and now, as a City banker, I get to go to some expensive and luxurious restaurants across Europe. But this is still the haunt to which we return. Great staff with excellent and well-paced service, but it's the food... It is consistently fabulous to the point where I'm salivating just writing this review. Try the squid with chilli and salt, crispy roasted pork, shredded beef and monk-style vegetables.
