I first came here in 1985 when still at school, and carried on going through student days and now, if I'm in London, I'll still go. Yes it's basic, but I've never had anyone rude to me, I usually ask for something not on the menu and it invariably arrives boiling hot within 5-10 minutes. One day I will learn to let it all cool down a bit before eating!
It might not be to everyone's tastes (in which case try the Imperial China next door) but for cheap and cheerful, it's great. And I still love the shredded chicken chow mein after all these years. I just wish I lived closer!

I have been coming to this resturant since I was very young
It does the most fantastic, tasty Chinese food; you just have to know exactly what you want because it isn't clear on the menu
The service it quick and efficient, the food comes in large portions for a low price
It has been open for at least 40 years now showing it is an extremely successful buisness
It is well worth going to!

Pass your way !
First the deco could have made us go away, but fine we wanted not to be shallow and give it a go.
One of my friend went to ladies toilets before we started eating, and came back disgusted. Seems to look like they haven't been cleaned for a week ....
But fine, we thought food could still be good ... The ladies who served us were very unfriendly, nearly rude with us. Food was the worst i have eaten in Chinatown. Very very basic.
Don't consider positive reviews here, i guess somebody from the staff wrote it. Even for the money it's not worth it, i would recommend you to try chines buffet restaurand instead (can have plenty of food for £5).

I love this place!, dont kid yourself and you may have to get over yourself, unlike some of the people that have written reviews for Hing Loon, There is no glamour but the food is so simple and delicious, I have have been in places that are beautiful and very expensive in Soho and had worse food. The food here is so cheap and good, the chili salt squid and the crispy pork belly rocks! tell me where else could you get a main for £3.95! i would be happy to pay double and have done for far less tasty food in some places. If want to sit next to Madonna, go to the Ivy, if you want great amazingly cheap food go here!

This restaurant is horrific. As we were lead up the stairs we were met with the stench of bleach. For some reason we persisted in ordering food, as we were a large party and did not have a booking anywhere else. The dishes we ordered ranged from mediocre to appalling. However, it was the service that was the most shocking aspect of this wholly negative experience. The waitress was not just incompetent but down right rude. Half of the groups drinks arrived after the starters, requests for water were met with vicious retorts. Menus were snatched and one starter arrived as the bill came! We complained to the manager, something I have never felt moved to do before, who in all fairness was very apologetic, yet he did not seem surprised when I told him I had just experienced the worst service in my life. At ten pounds a head with wine, it is cheap, but we were still left feeling completely cheated.
