i come here again and again and i never had any problem. yes the waiter is abrupt and there might not be much smiles, but the food is always excellent and good value. i always take my friends here and we never had a bad meal.
a good way to show is is that they are always busy, many times queuing outside the restaurant, and even for the weekdays, when all the other restaurants in chinatown is very quiet.
I would suggest those delicate flowers to go to more polished establishments.

I have been a customer of this restaurant for the last 26 years. What keeps me coming back is the quality and authenticity of their food at very reasonable prices. The service is efficient and friendly, far better than Hakkansan's.
I would advise those who look for ambiance and pampering service should go elsewhere like the Oriental at the Dorchester where you would be treated like the Royalties.

I have to stand up for this place too after dining at many Chinese restaurants in London. We’ve been to small crappy places in Chinatown, to tasting menu in Hunan, to the more trendy Hakkasan. No doubt that you don’t go to New Mayflower for its service. But where can you find a fried whole crab on crispy noodle at this calibrate in London? Deep fried frog legs? Garlic steamed scallop on its shell?

Now it is rare to get good service in any of the Chinese restaurants near Chinatown. The Mayflower however has managed to shock us. The very arrogant manager (the one who is supposed to welcome you when you walk through the door) has a major attitude problem. He was incredibly rude and refused to seat us although there were quite a few tables empty. Food from past experience is average so we are not in a hurry to go back there.

I feel I have to stand up for this place. I've only been here with large parties of people quite late at night and we've had a ball. The waiters are perhaps not over friendly initially but they have a good sense of humour and wit and can make you laugh. Even brought a smile to my moody flatmates face bringing him back into a good mood. Crispy duck is always great and other dishes all quite nice.

What a horrible place. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated in what is a very cramped restaurant, we were herded downstairs with another couple and sat with nothing at the table while watching other customers being handed nibbles and dips while they waited for their food.
The noodles came out cold / lukewarm depending on which angle you attacked them from.
Then came the bill.
I noted a service charge had already been added on and since the service had been rude and surly with plates literally getting thrown onto the table, I declined to pay the service charge and just left enough money to cover the bill. The waiter took the money and within 30 seconds threw (and I mean threw) the bill back on the table and said very rudely "The service charge is not optional" while jabbing his finger at the bill. I explained that I found the service rude and was not going to pay it. He disappeared and returned a minute later and repeated his performance. By this time the ladyfriend and I were pulling on our coats in disgust. My exit was blocked by the manager who very aggressively blocked my entrance and said, again very rudely, "Why haven't you paid the service charge, don't you think he was doing his job bringing your food to the table? You're paying his wages'.
At that point I'd had enough and loudly enough for the room to hear castigated him for having a cold food and aggressively rude staff who verbally assaulted customers who refused to pay the underhanded and 'optional' service charge. Sice my exit was being blocked by the manager and 3 waiters, short of getting physical, this seeemed the best option. They parted slightly and I pulled my girlfriend out he restaurant laughing (and I must say slightly shaking) at the experience.
Nothing, I repeat nothing will ever get me back into this hole of a restaurant. Places like this give London eating a bad name and if I saw the place closed down, the world would be a better place.

The restaurant' service was so so poor. The gentleman at reservation desk was so rude, sounded so fed up with phoecalls and answered questions so impatiently.

Four of us had good food and a good time here last night. We arrived at 8pm without a reservation and they sat us right away. We were in the basement in a tiny corner cut out for a table of six. It wasn't glamerous, but it was the last free table.
I have never been to a restaurant in China Town and received service that is anywhere in the realm of fawning. Conforming to my expectations, our server always seemed a bit hurried; however, he was polite and smiling the whole time.
The food was fresh, hot, flavoursome, and crispy if it was meant to be. Honey ribs, crispy duck, salt & pepper softshell crab, crispy fried beef and carrots with chili, some sort of pork chop dish (Hunan?), and steamed pork all got positive comments from the entire table.
With bustling atmosphere, fine service, and better than expected food, this is my New Favourite for Chinese in soho.

Extremely poor service and bad attitude to the customers. Taste and quality of food were average.
I had a dinner with my family at New Mayflower Restaurant last night around 1900 dated 23rd June 2007. A waiter offered us to sat at the large table straight away when we arrived at the reception.
We ordered 7 dishes, boiled rice for 4 and 2 glasses of coke which seem a lot for 4 people. We then slowed down a bit at later stage of our dinner and my brother was the only one who carried on eating at the time but, a waiter (who looked after our table) started to clear our table and delivered desire and fruits on our table. The waiter then delivered our bill (we didn't ask for a bill as yet) to our table which we felt that are they forced us to leave asap and offer our table to other customers? (NOTE: They were not busy at the time we left the restaurant and no personnels from the restaurant were thank us when we left.). We were so disappointed, unhappy and not enjoyed at all when we left the restaurant.
I trust that most diner would expect to enjoy good food and experience FRIENDLY services etc.
I therefore (due to the above expereinced) would NOT recommend any readers to have a dinner or any social events at this restaurant.
