Matthew Norman - 9/10

Saturday, June 27, 2009 - My Barnsley chop, cooked to an ideal light pink, had the gratifyingly fatty, palate-sucking flavour of top-notch lamb, and came with a ratatouille-esque collation of shallots, peppers and pimentos, as well as fresh mint. My friend's roast pollack was beautifully cooked...Although the chef shows real delicacy in balancing flavours so they complement rather than swamp or confuse each other, the portions tend toward the rustic, and we'd have needed a tapeworm to cope with a pud after that lot.

I love this pub! Friendly staff, interesting menu, my boyfriend though would like a better selection of beer. My favourite pub in Hammersmith (+Angelsea Arms)

Fantastic. Our third or fourth visit, this time with a group of 12 for a large Christmas get-together. The service was attentive and friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere was festive and welcoming. Most importantly, the food was excellent and great value. Tasty modern food, served and presented to a very good standard with well selected wine. Still a hidden gem.

The staff and great chef were sacked recently and a skeleton crew put in. Tiny speakers now distort Radio 1 type music all the time, ghastly & cheap and the food is now unequivocally some of the most disgusting that I've ever eaten. It is now ghastly and most odd of all, the prices are the same as was the case with the stunning food it has replaced. This pub seems finished to me. The original format just required modest advertising. This was a superb pub, really exceptional and now it is like an appalling, badly run A road boozer. Sorry guys...

Yet another rather boring gastropub. Despite great reviews, this restaurant seemed very run of the mill. Service was extremely mediocre, the tables utilitarian and basic and the lack of linen or half decent table ware very disappointing.

For food of such average quality the bill was high and on a level with prestigious establishments such as La Trompette. Not to be recommended.

I went to Carpenter's Arms on Saturday night with 3 friends, on the strength of the AA Gill and Matthew Fort reviews - but it was very disappointing. My fish stew main course was thin and unimpressive, lacking depth of flavour and strength. We also ordered a cheeseboard of Artisan cheeses to end the meal but had to ask - 'where's the cheese?' Each sample was probably the equivalent of 2 mouthfuls, very mean portions for the price. Service was good but food was underwhelming. Not planning to go back. I never write online reviews but this meal was so disappointing that I had to share with others. Wish I'd gone to La Trompette instead...

we were a group of 16 and the vegetarian and the meat option were really dreadful and the puds weren't good either. The beef was tough beyond edible. Service ok.
