I have tried many chinese restaurants, wherever I live and I'm am quite fussy about particular items I like to eat but there are few chinese when you don't have to advise them how you like your food to be cooked which I have done in the past. I have even took my family from Spain to eat there last Sunday afternoon and they enjoyed they praised the food highly - other food critics. I am never disappointed and they are friendly to me but some people do have off days. Recommend.

this is one of the best chinese restaurants i have been too...we have since moved out of the area but keep coming back to this place.....service is what it is....once you have been a few times they tend to remember you and warm up a bit....very accommodating with any requsts and don't try and push too much food on you.

Delicious food (and they serve sake too!)

The service was prompt and efficient and polite, not over the top, just about right.

It was our first visit but we're going back today and would recommend it to anyone.

What a nasty place, staff were rude, food was served too quick and was very cold. also whilst eating the staff hovered round the table like flies! I would not advise you to waste your time going.

The Green Cottage is one of my all time favourite restaurants. It serves delicious food (my favourite dish is their sweet and sour chicken), and even though the staff can sometimes be dismissive, they always bring you your food in record time, and the food more than makes up for their lack of enthusiasm. If you like Chinese cuisine, go to this restaurant!

I first came here as a student for my weekly treat of Duck and Rice. Then I brought my girlfriend for our first date. We got married and my pregnant wife came here during both her pregnancies. When our babies were born they were under the table while we ate. Then they were at the table watching us eat. Now they eat with chopsticks. In the 30 years of me and later my family coming here, the food has been second to none but the rudeness of the staff has also been second to none. The owner is nice and his son nicer. But the staff is something else. But don't let the rude staff spoil your enjoyment of the excusite food. When Green Cottage was shut for some months after a fire, we felt that something was missing in our lives. We used to be locals in Belsize Park and St. john's Wood. We moved to Southfields near Wimbledon. But we still come here for a 'Chinese'.

Returning to London and NW district after a very long vacation abroad. Found the restaurant as it used to be, the wonderful food rushed to the table by the owners, swarmning with families with young children, all concentrating in the lovely dishes. Small as it is, may be tight at times so a short stroll on the Finchley Rd may pass some of the waiting time and enhance the appetite.

I have frequented this restaurant for many years & love it. They provide decent chinese food at sensible prices. I have noticed comments in respect of the waiters, it must be remembered that the food is quick, fast & cheap. Hence the service can be slightly abrupt., but must not be taken personally, infact I find it amusing!

i went there with a friend and my partner last night nice place food is good. service is unattentive. waiters are not talking to the guest or even checking about the customers' meal. a lot of improvement to do on this side.

do not know if i will get back and if i will recommend it

This is a great place for a quiet dinner or a family outing. It really does cater for all.

Service is attentive and the food is always of a high standard. Personally, I do find the atmosphere a bit tired. It has definitely had at least one refit since the 90s, but I think I preferred the old look. That's just a matter of taste though.

And when the bill arrives, you'll be happy.

It's about half-way between Swiss Cottage and Finchley Road tube stations and I'd advise you to reach it by tube, as parking can be a pain unless you're lucky or don't mind a short walk.

I'll go again. It's on my shortlist.
