Amici

This is a brilliant place! Simple, tasty, homely Italian food produced to an impeccable standard is matched with cheery service and a great wine list. This is a simple equation that so many others get wrong at twice the price! A big mention must go to the owner and charismatic host Houman who makes you feel at home and welcome from start to finish.

Had my second visit yesterday, this time for our office Christmas lunch. There were 18 of us, normally a recipe for disaster, namely, "office lunch" , "Christmas", "18 people". No problem for Amici - The food was excellent and we were not rushed, having been given exclusive use of their private room for 3 hours! This was excellent value and we all enjoyed it very much - this is very fortunate as we work less than 1 minute away from this place. The set price £12.50 lunchtime 3 course menu ends on Monday, but you can still try Amici's for £5.99 for a pasta dish or pizza plus a glass of wine. Please don let the fact that it looks like a hairdresser's from the outside and decor inside is starting to look dated and tired - I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

I love my food. Trust me, it's beginning to show as I approach 30.
I have always tended to find that Italian restaurants tend to be a little too generic and on occassion just very standard and ordinary. On the whole Italian really doesn't tend to be anything to make a fuss about for me.
However, I have now been to Amici twice. Once for a birthday party and again for a romantic meal with my other half.
It's clean, light, airy and has attentive and friendly staff. It's not cliched and doesn't rely on gimmicks to sell the food. The menu, speaks for itself.
It's not original, there are still the pizzas, pastas and gelato. However, what makes it unique is that the menu has a little more to offer and just introduces enough variation to keep you interested for more than 10 seconds.
Common Italian flavours have been given a revamp.
Not only this but the taste of the food is absolutely divine. Let me assure you, it is pretty close to being perfect. The flavours are potent without being overpowering and most importantly, they work. It is, in essence, delicious wholesome food.
The portions are enough too. Not 'diet-sized' as many London restaurants tend to be. you actually do come out feeling quite hapy and content with the meal. In fact, they're huge.
The downside is that the deserts aren't special. But they're not awful.
Go, enjoy the tastes and generally order something other than pizza. You'll be pleasently surprised.
