Was so looking forward to eating here, had been nagging my friends to visit for ages, but how disappointed can one person be. My starter of crab was fine; however, the salad was horrid and tasteless. My friend's leek, bacon and poached egg salad was frankly horrible, far too watery and reminiscent of school dinners. Main course - let's not go there! Cold and uninspired. This place keeps receiving business, so has become complacent. One more important point to add, it is ridiculously expensive for the food they produce. Needless to say, this is one customer who will not return. Hopefully my experience was a one off..

I've now been to this restaurant 4 times and have mixed feelings. It's always busy with friendly waiters and the atmosphere is undeniably French. It makes me feel like I've taken a step into a rural bistro! We've never been hurried even though it is often full and the service is helpful with lots of smiling faces. I would say the food can vary but on the whole is very good. I love the salmon with tarrogan mousse that I had last and am thinking of replaying it at a dinner party! Now, I would definitely call that a compliment to a restaurant when the diner wants to take away the receipe. However, we did get ignored once when we chose to sit away from the bar and waiters and the service was slow verging on painful. All in all though, I would recommend it and will continue to go back

I have eaten here a few times and agree with some of the comments above. The main thing is that the food is pretty good, but not good enough to justify the considerably hefty prices. £20 for Halibut that is not quite hot enough and probably not as fresh as it could be is too much in my book. Wine by the glass is also seriously hiked in price. Nice atmosphere and service pretty good, but I think if I'm going to spend £60 on a meal with my girlfriend then I would be tempted to take the suggestion of someone above and look at other restaurants in the area.

I've always thought the waiting staff here were quite sexy, and the coffee is great, much better than all those American chains. Good place to have coffee and a snack and watch the world go by, and if you get bored of watching the world go buy, then just flirt with the waiters!

What a shame, used to love this place but after a gap of 4 years went back with friends and was badly disappointed. The atmosphere was still fun and the service was actualy very good for us. Friendly French waiter who was attentive and helpful. The food was plain bad and would have been massively overpriced even if the bill had been halved. Bland food, luke warm and totally lacking in French quality. When we had the nerve to suggest the soup wasn't very good the manager sneered as if we'd never eaten in a French restautrant before and said it was their style. Well if that's their style then I'd have to suggest you stay well clear of this place. Being Clapham it'll still get full but there are MUCH better places about. Walk 10 minutes and go to Newtons instead !"

the food here is DISGUSTING. The breakfasts are okay but if you come for lunch or dinner you will be disappointed - and charged way too much for the privilege. The wine list looks great and huge but our first, second, third and fourth choices were all unavailable! Steak was chewy, vegetables overdone, service absolutely terrible but the worst was the tuna, which was poor quality, tasted extremely unfresh and was badly overcooked - in a french restaurant!
Just terrible.

Stumbled upon this place after watching a film opposite; ate there late afternoon Sunday so wasn't busy, service was fine and friendly. Really liked the atmosphere and decor; the big table for 12 in front of the open kitchen would be a good place for a party. Food was OK - sort of bistro standard, but about 25% over-priced. Worth it now and again for that feeling of having escaped London for a bit of France, but Bar du Marche does that convincingly at 60% of the price.

We ate at Gastro this week and I have to say our meal was bad value for money and poorly cooked. My fish course(John Dory) was overcooked, rubbery and past its best while my companion thought her Halibut was OK but nothing special. Her mille feuille of sweet potatoes had an unappealing texture and could well have been re-heated. Service was nothing special and the second drinks appeared on the bill but not at the table. With main courses priced at around £15 to £20 and a 12.5% service charge on top this is expensive for a basic bistro in a South London side street. Definitely not recommended."

i went to gastro last week and it was one of the worst dining experience i have ever had!
The food was decent but way overpriced, the service was poor not because of the good will and good attitude of the waiters...but because of the lack of them! How come such a busy restaurant have so little staff to take care of his customers.
The place is dirty and it doesn't smell good in there! I think the owners are trying to make as much money as possible without any efforts to please their customers.
This is not the place to go in order to get good value for the money....gastro cheats !!!!
