This place used to make really nice fish and chips, not anymore. Portions are getting smaller and smaller more batter less fish more oil. Only a few chips if you order with fish in a box. The staff is slow and unattentive. Shame

On a weekend the standard drops. Last week {13th Feb} i ordered fish and chips, they were very poor quality, the cod was mainly batter, the chips were no better.

Went here for lunch with my friend and two year old daughter. We ordered scampi and chips and as my friend went to open the bottle of ketchup it exploded all over her and my daughter covering them. This was due to the ketchup being out of date which the waitress agreed, it was all over her outfit, all in my daughter's hair and over her cream cardigan absolutely everywhere. In fairness the waitress did seem quite concerned about my daughters shock and offered her ice cream.
When it came to paying all they did for two ruined outfits due to their mistake of condiments being out of date was offer two scoops of ice cream free, when my friend said is there nothing else they could do they took £5 off!!!! We were off to see a show so my friend had to buy a new dress from a nearby shop and my daughters hair and clothes were covered in ketchup - no offer of the dry cleaning bill. Quite shocked! Oh and when we questioned why there was ketchup out of date on the table we were told "because nobody usually sits at this table" that made the whole situation fine then!!!

Sunday evening Fish House. One bowl of steamed mussels enough for two. Generous cut of middle cod, one very large Haddock portion, fat chips, mushy peas, and one bottle of Muscadet all for £42.00. Waddle in Victoria Park. Can't go wrong!

I am a regular at fish house (have been for the past couple of years).
This is a top family restaurant, serving all manner of fresh fish in a varied and imaginative menu with a high quality wine list at excellent prices with no fuss. Definitely a godsend in East London.
It also is a chippie, with freshly battered fish and golden, crispy chips (freshly cut in the restaurant). Last time we went we managed to feed two starving kids on one kids portion of fish and chips. Basically we never get away without visiting fish house when we visit Vicky Park; the children won't have it.
An excellent restaurant, fish or otherwise. I highly recommend.

When one is faced with rude service and incredibly bad attitude by the manager of a restaurant, one often wonders: 'was it something I did?' Reading some of the comments here and elsewhere confirms what I thought at the time: it's not me, it's you.
The unpleasant and surly manageress of the Fish House epitomises the awful customer service which certain London eateries develop once they think they have become successful.
Instead of welcoming us into the restaurant, our first contact with her was a glare and a telling-off for attempting to sit at an outdoor table. It beggars belief that people who run such a business can be so rude to potential customers. Why run a restaurant if you don't take pleasure in providing people a good time? Smile! Be nice!
After the specials board was nonchalantly plonked on the edge of the table without even a 'hello' or 'good evening' it became clear that the boss's bad attitude now pervades the rest of the younger staff at this over-rated and over-priced place.
The fancy presentation of the food and wine is superficial, as the fish is average at half the price while the chips are over-cooked to a crisp. This wouldn't be so bad were it not for the arrogance with which it is dished up, alas, so familiar in such wannabe-trendy start-ups.
The nail in the coffin is the pretence of an ethical sourcing policy which doesn't stand up to scrutiny and is cynically aimed at any middle-class customers who may be faintly aware of the crisis in fish stocks, but don't know the details of which fish is truly endangered.
Until they learn to respect the paying customer and show some humility and pleasure in serving people their dinner, this lazy place should be avoided. Unfortunately, while they have a monopoly as the only 'decent' fish bar in a deprived area, they will probably continue to get away with it. Especially if unthinking punters - just moved in nearby - keep rolling up.

Went for fish and chips on a Saturday afternoon, after having place my and my mother order and haveing agreed that I could sit outside I then was told by the very rude Manager I had to sit inside as because the outdoor tables were only for people that use their restaurant menu! (Note this is a fish and chip shop) and all table outdoor were free! So I asked for a full refund and went to the lovely Italian restaurant "Su Sazzagoni" two doors down and had a lovely platter of grilled fish and a cool glass of italian white wine.
On my way back I spotted two ladies eating fish and chips at the same table I wanted to sit, so I asked the manager why and she immediately blamed one of the waitresses!
Will never go back there!

I used to be a regular at the fish house, having my friday night take away treat! I went last Sunday, the weather was hot, so there was a really long queue, a really long queue for some reason that didnt seam to shorten very fast. When we eventually got served, the women serving us was very rude, she was on her mobile while serving me and ignored me, After 25 minutes wait, some acknowledgement would have been nice. the fish and chips were warm and soggy, a real disappointment. I am not sure if the owners have changed? but it was a real disapointement, this local fish and chip shop used to pride itself on friendly staff and fantastic fish and chips, whats happened? i don't think i will be going back.
