We went to Gaucho today - bank holiday Monday for lunch. We booked our table in advance but still had to wait to be seated for about 15 min (and I can't say that the place was packed - quite a few free tables)! When we arrived we were promised a table outside but instead were seated at the one inside. The service was quite slow - our food arrived 40 minutes after we ordered by which time our toddler son was almost asleep at the table. Ok, the steaks were good but overall this place doesn't deserve full marks and the prices they're asking.

We went last Sunday for a meal with friends. The service was friendly and polite - we were shown to our table as soon as we arrived and the waitress was able to answer all of our questions.
The food was really good. We had the empanandas for starter, which were nice. Then we had the Gaucho sampler of steaks, which at over £80 between the four of us plus side orders was not cheap, but the quality of the steak was lovely and it was great to try all the different cuts. The desserts and wine were good quality too and everything was hot and served promptly. The happy birthday message in chocolate sauce on the dessert plate for my friend was a nice touch, as we hadn't mentioned it was a birthday - the waitress had seen a card and guessed.
Because Gaucho is on the towpath in Richmond, quite a lot of families go for lunch and so there was the odd crying baby, but generally it was a lovely meal in a great location.

I went on a friday evening to Gaucho in Richmond. My booking was for 9:00pm but because there was nowhere to park we had to walk about 20 mins to the place and nobody in the town seemed to have ever heard of it?!
We arrived not far off an hour late.........and we were told that we were'nt too late because they were running on a backlog of people and we'd have to wait. How long would we have been waiting if we'd been on time???
We stood "TRYING" to get a drink at the bar for 20 mins then when we finally did some waiter who could barely string a single english sentence togther took us to our table....about in inch away from another couple to the side.
OK enough of whats wrong with the place.........the food was really good..overpriced massively but I expected that so I'm not bothered about that.
I had squid for starter, t-bone steak for main with sweet potato chips, spinach and roasted vegetables. For dessert I had cheesecake which was good but a little too much tofee topping so was sickly and I've got a very sweet tooth.
All in all food good, service poor, cost poor, and oh yes the toilets were out of use too!
I would not recommend the place nor go back there again.

Was reasonably impressed by this restaurant despite some poor reviews here. The booking was dealt with very professionally and courteously by the receptionist and they even phoned 2 hrs prior to reconfirm our reservation. We were seated immediately upon arriving, and service was prompt and friendly - nice to have Latin American staff too.
Starter of Soft Shell Crab was lovely; Main of Sirloin was good - but I was expecting it to be a bit more special. My only negative comment would be that I find it a bit cheeky to charge 2.50GBP for an accompanying sauce, and 3.00GBP and up for any side orders such as chips, salad, veg. Surely when you're paying a fare whack for a main course, these items could be included free of charge. Dessert of Chocolate Truffle Cake was excellent, and the wine list is fantastic. All in all a lovely evening out, and beautiful setting overlooking the Thames - we were blessed with a warm summer's evening.

I went to the Gaucho last night with some Argentine friends. We had a table booked but still had to wait for it even though the restaurant was quite empty.
I ask the waiter to suggest a red wine, and he suggested 2 wines quite expensive. In the end we chose the house red, which was quite good.
The starters were very expensive and not very good. Empanadas, i make them better myself, and i am greek cypriot. The sweet breads were appalling and i am sure they were beef kidneys chopped up!
The main course we had Sirlion and Rib eye steak, i must admit they were good. The deserts were appalling, we had pancakes with ice cream and dulce de leche. The pancakes were from a packet from a supermarket. They were cold and chewy with a few drops of dulce de leche and a tiny scoup of basic vanilla ice cream on the side.
The waiters and waitresses were polite, however the service was very slow and had to wait a long time for our food.
Generally the restaurant is over priced (approx £65 per head) and does not give you the Argentine feeling and food.
PS: Be prepared to pay £7.50 for a sausage!

My fiancee and I spent Valentine's dinner at Gaucho Richmond. We are both Argentine and we were craving for real good Argentine meat!. We had a FANTASTIC experience! Service was outstanding. Great wine selection. Meat (and I can give credit of this) was at the level of best meat houses in Argentina. A huge thanks to Alex (Gaucho O2) who solved a reservation problem for us, Kevin (Manager at Richmond) and his crew, especially to Carolina, the lovely waitress that served us with extreme kindness.
