The Diner

A tale of two meals: I've eaten here twice and to start with the good news, the breakfast was fantastic. Bottomless coffee and all the usual classics, the french toast is worth a mention on its own. It's not cheap, but not too over the top on price. £7.95 for a lumberjack breakfast with pancakes, bacon, eggs and maple syrup. Yes you could get a slap up English breakfast down the road at a greasy spoon for £4.95, but the atmosphere and service are worth the extra in the mornings at least. Returning with a large group for dinner on a friday was a mistake, although the service was good and the waiting staff were very nice the food was a bit disappointing. Burgers are quite steep. Not horrible by any means, but just not that great. The chips were ok, and the chicken seizer salad was nasty. Top that with quite pricey drinks: beers around 3.90, and a milkshake at 4.50 - get a shot in that and you are looking at a £9 drink. Ouch. Hefty service charge too. I would come back, but maybe not for dinner. The burger just wasn't that big or that juicy which is really important in a place like this.

When I'm in Shoreditch this is my go to place. It's comfortable, the staff are cool and the food is uber moreish. Breakfast is well above par for the area and the milkshakes will leave you more than satisfied.

One of my favourite fall-backs in the Shoreditch/Hoxton area for yummy (but fairly pricey!) fast food in a relaxed atmosphere where you can hang out and have a good conversation. The décor and layout of the diner has been really well done too and there’s always at least one American in when I’ve been there! I normally order a burger or hotdog with fries and a milkshake. The shakes are £4 each but well worth the money and definitely better than the meagre desserts. The hazelnut and banana flavours are absolutely divine. I’m reliably informed that the breakfast blueberry pancakes are excellent too. The service is relaxed, with the staff hanging out at the bar and they don’t pressure you to leave after your meal so you feel like you could sit there talking all night. Beats Hamburger Union type places hands down. Will definitely return.
