The first time my boyfriend and I went to Yard in 2005. And we loved it. The restaurant is placed in an old fire place station, the inside is spacious, lovely lights. And when the weather allows, it is great to have a drink and a bite outside. Since then we were back quite a few times - either just two of us or with friends. I even had a couple of business meetings there.
It was a great place - the atmosphere, the service, the food. Till last Thursday. We haven't been there for a few months. And were looking to enjoying the restaurant again last Thursday. Didn't quite happened. The service and the atmosphere are still the same. But the food changed. I asked for a spaghetti bolonese. You would think what can go wrong with spaghetti bolonese? It is so simple. But pasta was over boiled and all runny with too much tomato sauce. But the worst thing was some small pieces of chopped bacon mixed with the sauce. Can you imagine those little bits of boiled, whitish, pig fat mixed with your pasta?! It was revolting. I also find it hilarious that someone thought to exercise ones culinary imagination in such a way. Also the menu never stated that traditional bolonese would contain bacon.
I ate some anyway, which was rather stupid of me. My stomach was funny for two days afterwards.
My husband had his own comments - he was sitting just opposite the kitchen and could see how chefs were handling tools for cooking the pizza. Also he said the pizza dough was different, not as nice as before. Worth mentioning that his stomach also wasn't ok the next day.
Maybe it was just a bad day for the Yard, though I think we will look for another favorite restaurant.
