Indian YMCA

I have been at the Y for a while now and my long term view would be that the food is good, compared with other no frills restaurants. It gets you more bang for your buck .
But the days to avoid would be tuesday and fridays(dinner) and weekend lunches.
Good days would be mondays and thursdays (dinner).
The food is homely and not for "nawab sahab" types.
The atmosphere (I wont venture to call it ambiance) is fun ,,, laughter all around.
Genearlly a feel good place.

A very homely place for students, i mean even oldies like me , while appearing for the FRCR finals. Food is wholesome with no frills, cheap and the atmosphere
great, really a home away from home

I beg to differ. We dined there last year and found it to be just what its name implies: an institutional pseudo cafeteria with cold, stale, Indian food of the sort served in schools and hospitals, i.e. watery dal, tough checken, boring veggies and cold tough chapatties. Sorry but if all you want is cheap eats, by all means go. If you want wonderful Indian food, you have to pay for oit.

The Indian YMCA dinner has to be the best deal in London. I dined there for five nights out of six and will return. A Pakistani friend who accompanied me one evening said that he had not expected to finds such authentic and well prepared South Asian food at almost any price in the Western World.
