I was recently paid a visit by some cousins from up north who don't dine at indian restaurants as they feel that most inidian restaurants do not offer true indian cuisine (Usually Bangladeshi cuisine). I wanted to change this notion and suggested we dine at Haandi's - a favourite of mine, though I must say we had not been here since its recent refurbishbent. I was pleased to see the new refurbishments and decor were to a high standard. Since we had no booking and it was a busy saturday night we were worried we would have to wait for ages, but the restaurant manager was very accomadating and had us seated within 10 minutes. I did the honours and ordered for all of us - putting my neck on the line. Everyone enjoyed the north-indian style of cuisine - packed with flavuour but not too heavy on the spices. The staff were extremely friendly and the service was five-star. The evening was a success, and the thing I am most pleased about is that the next time we dine out, my cousins will trust my choice. I definetly reccommend this restaurant if you are after good authentic indian cuisine.

A GROUP OF US CELEBRATED A FRIENDS BIRTHDAY AT HAANDI - IT TURNED OUT TO BE A REAL TREAT. THE FOOD WAS AWESOME AND THE SERVICE IMPECCABLE. DESPITE A LATE BOOKING THE MANGEMENT ACCOMODATED US INTO THE NEWLY REFURBISHED PRIVATE DINING AREA WHICH WAS IDEAL FOR OUR GROUP OF 25. AS USUAL THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC AND THE SERVICE WAS FAST AND ATTENTIVE. THE MANAGEMENT HAVE OUT DONE THEMSELVES THIS TIME.

A group of us went to dine at this restaurant on Saturday night. On our arrival, we were asked if we had booked. On replying “no”, the manager said “he will see what he can do”. It seemed a bit silly considering only four other tables were occupied and the rest of the restaurant was completely empty. They shuffled us to the back corner right next to the kitchen door where there was very little space. My colleague who is 8 moths pregnant found it a bit of a squeeze to get into the table, but when we asked them for another table, we were told that we couldn’t have it as they had all been booked.

As we had been there several times before, we were surprised that its recently been refurbished. To be honest, they really haven’t done much in the way of “refurbishing”. The rear entrance to restaurant has now become the main entrance. What was once a lovely bar area has been removed and replaced with a private dining area which is not very private as it’s the way to the toilets and everyone walks right past the tables to get to the toilets. The bar has been moved to the “front” of the restaurant is more of a counter that you find is some local Indian rather than a bar.

Usually in the past we have noticed the food is good but the service is always lacking and very slow. We were prepared for that on this occasion but it seems the service levels have deteriorated even further.

We ordered two glasses of Semillon Chardonnay but were served regular Chardonnay thinking we would not notice. The glasses were dirty and the wine had a thin layer of film floating on it. I asked the waiter who agreed to get me another glass. However a few minutes later the same glass turned up with the same wine with the same dirty glass!!!

After thirty minutes, our starters arrived, but it took an additional five minutes to get the attention of the waiter so that we could have some cutlery and napkins! By this time the food was getting cold.

The culinary skills of the chef could not be faulted. Everything that we ordered was tasty, visually appealing, and the portions were all a good size. The paneer and the chaat starters were mouth watering, and the aubergine and palak paneer melted in your mouth.

If the service levels improved and the staff and manager had a less care free attitude, then this restaurant would be really good. They may be able to get away with it in Kenya, but where people pay and expect a certain level of service in this country, the restaurant falls quite short of the mark.

As we were leaving two and half hours later (20 mins waiting for the bill), I couldn’t help notice the “booked” tables lying empty…..maybe they all cancelled!!

Well, A restaurant which is Indian in London ought to have a large populace owing to it's fame or let's say, ambience etc., this particular review posted on 2nd July 2005 by Ms. Rakhee isn't in concurrence to what might be the actual scenario, U know she also mentioned abt., her wait compensated with charming date and stuff, this just proves that possibly she might be preoccupied with that tension and may be blamed the very 'service oriented' restaurant. Just thought so...no hard feelings madam....regards,

I went to Haandi on my birthday last week and me and my friends loved it! The food was amazing and the staff were extremely friendly. There was a mix of vegi's and non-vegi's and the restaurant catered for both. The malai mushrooms and jumbo prawns were to die for. They were the biggest prawns I have ever seen and they were juicy and succulent; absolutely perfect. The naans were fresh and well buttered (just how I like it)! The restaurant was clean and the new decor creates the right ambience. I would recommend it! Rock on!
