Went for Saturday lunch with a friend. Very nice selection of Scandy open topped sandwiches on offer at £4.50 for 3 or £7 for 5. Very good filter coffee in large mugs. Pastries did not look very good - seemed to be of the ready -made heat-and-eat variety.
You basically pick the sandwiches at the front, these are put onto a plate for you, and then you take them to your formica table with a paper napkin and your mug of coffee (or pick a bottle of juice/coke etc).
It's not expensive for London,as the quality is good. While the staff are keen and polite, I found ithe place was not exactly spotless. Maybe more effort is needed in ensuring the environment is clean and tidy,as informality is not an excuse for sloppiness.
This is not a "destination eatery",but if you are in the neighbourhood it is worth a try.

I popped into this cafe for Semlor the Swedish traditional bun eaten on Shrove Tuesday (or Fat Tuesday in Sweden), which I had learnt about that week in Swedish class. My friend and I ended up staying for over 4 hours drinking and eating more! I have been back every weekend since and taken friends. The staff here provided the most friendly welcome I have received anywhere in London in 6 years, the atmosphere is warm and very friendly, where your Londoner inhibitions will be washed away. One minute it's quiet and peaceful and the next it is full of hungry people in for their smörgåsbord - open sandwiches on deliciously fresh rye bread, I reccommend the Swedish meatballs, egg & tomato and of course the herring pots! Don't be surprised to see Henrik dancing around or Sebastian singing along to the Scandinavian tunes on the stereo. If you come in as often as me, you'll even get to meet the friendly locals including Gordon. I am English and absolutely love this place. Everyone I have introduced has commented on how nice it is too, so stop reading this and get down there!

Scandinavian Kitchen is very addictive. The food, the atmosphere and the staff all leave you wanting more, and once you've been there you are sure to be going back.
The food is always fresh and tasty, the staff funny and friendly (not to mention tasty as well!), the place itself is trendy and cosy, and it's the perfect place to hang out any time of day. You'll feel welcome the second you walk through their bright red doors.
For Scandinavians living in London the place is authentic enough to feel like a little piece of home (you'll know what I mean when you see the place buzzing with happy Scandinavians at lunch time), and for anyone else it's a brilliant place to discover why those Nordics always have a twinkle in their eyes!
Enjoy.

This place really nice open sandwiches and it is really good value – I paid just £5.50 for lunch including a drink. The quality for that money is really good. The people who work there are really nice and I always feel really welcome when I go there. Try the “proper Scandinavian hotdogs” – they really are good, especially with that yellow sauce on it, it’s like a piccalilli mayo, and then with crispy onions. Highly recommended for good value lunch and a place to hide form the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.

Being a Scandinavian in London I was feeling home sick and stumbled across this place by chance last week. It has all the food us Scandinavian miss form home and i was made to feel so welcome by the people who work there. I came along with a pram and a grumpy baby, but the staff found me a high chair as well as toys and did not seem to mind kids at all eventhough it was a busy lunch time - in fact, my daughter did not want to leave in the end after having been charmed by one of the staff wo found time to chat eventhough they were busy.
The food is good old "husmandskost" - the staple, basic food you'd get at home. Lots of rye bread and simple toppings - and prices are very reasonable (We had full lunch and coffee and cake for under £10).
I'll be back for sure.

A new Scandinavian diner serving mainly Danish and Swedish specialities. The prices are very cheap and the food is very good especially the smorgasbord (the chef is a specialist in the traditional open sandwiches).
The staff are very friendly and welcoming and happy to give explanations. Sadly the atmosphere is lacking because there are so few customers ! So I encourage everyone to go and try.
It is (at the moment) really good value and well worth a visit.
There is a small market at the back at the ack selling cheeses, breads, and other Scandinavian goods.
