Original Lahore Kebab House

A return visit on saturday night confirmed it still delivers where it matters, the mixed grill starters. Go in a group, order these and enjoy. The curry that follows is fine but incidental. Service often patchy but on this occasion was good, perhaps because, whilst busy, it wasn't rammed and there was no que. Remains amazing value at under £15 a head helped by the BYO booze policy.
Surely nobody goes here without knowing what this place is about? Large groups and low-cost, tasty communal dining.

Went on sunday evening, after hearing a lot about the place.
The restaurant is like a canteen - very loud with kids running around everywhere, though this is abviously no fault of the restaurant.
As for the food, it was extremely average, and not cheap (as according to the rumours). A very sad salad which barely got touched, popadums with watery mango & tasteless mint yoghurt, no chilli, onion etc.
Lamb Karahi was nice, with really tender lamb. Chicken Biryani was average. Nan bread was quite poor.
At £21, takeaway is much better and you dont have to deal with the canteen surroundings & careless staff.
We won't bother again. Don't believe the hype. The same applies to Tayyabs, I really dont see the fuss.

I have been eating at Lahore Kebab house since the 90's and still go there religiously whenever I fancy a curry or we have a family celebration. The reason for this loyalty is simple...consistently amazing food, always. We have never had cause to complain as the food is perfectly seasoned, well-cooked and flavoursome and the staff are always polite and courteous. This place may not be a 'posh-nosh' eatery but instead of paying Michelin star prices for a few crumbs decorated on your plate you are paying next to nothing for generous portions of home styled cooking served in a casual surrounding. Granted it is a bit noisy, mainly due to the 'city' guys unwinding over beers and curries after work, but don't let this put you off, the food is worth it. The best way to judge is to eat there and to go and try the food for yourself then you will understand the attraction. This is genuine Pakistani food at it's best.

We booked for a Xmas party of eight at 7.30pm,when we got there it was absolute CHAOS,nobody lnew when we were going to be seated, our booking didn't count for anything we got seated at 8.10pm,we couldn't tell who was working there and who wasn't they never had any uniforms on.It was a total sham,I have read good reports about this place before, but it seems to me the owners or friends of the place must have wrote them.
When the food came it was ill presented and all the curries had the same tasting sauces with them, the salad that comes with the food was not even cut properly.
The food was cold on arrival and they got 3 of our dishes wrong, instead of saag alloo we got saag paneer,we ordered keema naans and they came deep fried in ghee,we asked for new cutlery but they guy just cleaned our plates with a fork and presented them to us again.
We sat upstairs which has only 2 toilets to accommodate about 100 people and they where disgustingly dirty and smelly .I will advise anybody not to go there,I will never go there again, a very unhappy xmas party:(

We have been here twice now and will never go again. The first time we went the food was well below standard. The second time we booked a table for 8pm. When we got there we were told they were too busy to honour our booking. The manager was arrogant and couldnt have cared less that we had actually booked a table. In fact he was nothing short of rude. There are much better Pakistani restaurants in the area. TOTALLY OVERRATED

Er I'm sorry but I have to agree entirely with the review below that gave this place 2/10. I'm quite shocked this place is as popular as it clearly is. I went there last night after reading all the positive reviews and quite frankly it is like every other poor Indian curryhouse in the UK. What bugs me is that, as the other reviewer said, nothing seems to be cooked fresh. The lamb chops were pretty good but only because they appeared to be fresh but everything else came out as the same slop with a different meat. It all tasted identical - we had butter chicken, jalfrezi and ochra and it was just the same tomato chilli sauce on everything. And the same that comes on every curry in a curryhouse. Why oh why do they do that? It doesn't take long to make an amazing curry from scratch so why can none of them ever get this right?
Service was also pretty bad. Place was packed with drunken idiots. Pretty much like every other curryhouse in London - and that's the best I can say. Oh and a plate of dried up, sickly looking lettuce being thrown on your table at the start? Seriously, where do you guys eat if you think this is quality???

Whilst I agree the service here can be a bit varied I have never eaten a bad meal here in over 20 years.Grilled meats are fabulous and some ( not all ) of the curries are very good-lamb chop curry and keema aloo are the highlights for me.
If you don't like a canteen style atmosphere, frantic service, noise, good value food I suggest going elsewhere.

I had to check the address to confirm that I'd been to the same Lahore as the person who wrote a scathing review after a visit in April (there are several restaurants called Lahore in the area). It was the same place but my experience was very different. It was packed with people of all races with about half looking as if they had a sub-continent background as had the family I accompanied. Would they do so well if it was as bad as this poor review suggested? There was a queue outside when we left about 8.30 pm.
The lamb chops and minty yoghurt (?) dip starter we all had on the advice of my friend who is a regular there, disappeared in minutes, 100% approval. I was very pleased with the tarka dahl and aloo paratha that followed and had a taste of three different (and they were different) chicken dishes, all brilliant in my opinion.
The mango lassi was as good as anything that I tasted in Southall when I lived and worked there. Finally, I must mention the little cold rice puddings, simple but delicious. I will be back soon.
