Food was OK but manager was so busy trying to cozy up for photos with a local councillor/MP that we kept being squeezed up so that they could be photographed together. Overrated but the ants seemed to like it

I went to Tabaq with a party of friends after a recommendation and reading the good reviews on this site.I can honestly say it is probably one of the best restaurants I have experienced. The atmosphere and decor was excellent, the food was one of the best i've ever had. The food been served very quickly, the staff and the manager very polite and attentive, caring and always very focussed on the quality service. The drinks been been on time whenever we need.On my opinion ,the restaurant that been awarded several time as the best in the uk,i think Tabaq restaurant must receive a special prize as the best in the world.i will recommend this restaurant to every one who love good and quality food.

never again. The food was pretty average but the service was truly terrible. The manager's approach ranged from sullen and bad-tempered to blatantly obnoxious and rude. I won't be returning,

I went to Tabaq with a party of friends after a recommendation and reading the good reviews on this site. I can honestly say it is probably one of the worst restaurants I have experienced. The atmosphere and decor was fine, however we started to lose patience after an hour and a half passed since ordering and there was no sign of even the starters. In itself this was excusable since we were a large group, but the staff were unapologetic and actually quite rude, just telling us we should have pre-ordered. On several occations we asked for drinks that never turned up and we were greeted with further rudeness when we advised that they had got some of the order wrong. There were mixed opinions about the food amongst our group, but my naan bread was hard and cold, and my girlfriends Korma was just a joke - more like warm, watery slightly tasteless soup. The portions were small too. When the bill came it didn't seem to reflect what we had eaten and seemed too high, but by then I was past caring. I will not be returning.

I am a bit of a curry freak, so really know a good curry when I have one, and this is, quite simply, the best.
The restuarant itself isn't up to much - very plain decor and the staff are no more than courteous even to a regular like me, but the food is exquisite. Subtle flavours, a perfect level of spice (hot, but never overpowering) and none of the sweetness found down the road at the Bombay Bicycle (10 minute walk down Nightingale Lane). But best of all is the lamb - always cooked as it should be and always so tender. I very much recommend the Zaikidaar Haandi Gosht.
If you are someone who wants a 'special' night out with the best wines, best service and a romantic ambience, this isn't for you. But if you want good food, you'll struggle to find a better curry in London.

What can I say! The plethora of awards that Tabaq has won invited me in, and needless to say wasn't disappointed. The food was excellent quality, being extremely well prepared and definitely a cut above the usual. The service level was also very good.
Well done!

I moved to Denmark 2 years ago, having lived in Balham. This was my favourite Indian restaurant, and I have been searching the web high and low in preparation for a business trip to London, because (I admit) I forgot the name of it after all this time. It is real food. Go there.

I live opposite Tabaq and only clicked on to find out the phone number as I want to book a table for my birthday. I have been once and thought it absolutely fantastic, so I was surprised to see such a mixed bag of reviews. I think the answer lies in the food - it is real food and not brightly coloured with hundreds of additives. So basically if you want a post pub, face-fill this probably isn't the place for you. But if you appreciate real and subtle flavours, then I highly recommend it. Although, I have to agree the decor is a bit late 80s.

Eaten here a few times and totally disagree with those who say it is nothing special. The food is fantastic - freshly cooked, brilliantly flavoured and so much more than the standard curries on offer elsewhere.
I love it and would thoroughly recommend ordering the specials ... and the peshware naan is by far the best I've ever had!

Horrible place. Food was above average, but nothing to write home about. Service was unpleasant. Moody staff made us feel positively unwelcome (we saw another couple get the same treatment), we left wishing we'd stayed in and got a takeaway.
