Karahi King

I have been going to this restaurant for a number of years, and it remains my favourite. Lovely food, especially sheekh kebab, lamb tikka and the not-seen-anywhere-else chicken bhajia starters. Karahi main dishes are superb, cooked to your preference for mild/medium/hot spice levels - I have never had a disappointing meal here. Good service, reasonable prices and unlicensed so BYO drinks. This is more a cafe than restaurant, and because of the open kitchen, the food smells do tend to permeate your clothes so don't wear your sunday best!

Don't fool yourself - this isn't so much a restaurant as cafe!!!!
It's not low fat - it's deep fried in oil!!!!!
The surroundings aren't brilliant plus the surrounding area is dodgy!!!!
And the service is just ordinary and forgetable!!!!!
The reason you come here-is for food on a budget!!!!
It tastes amazing!!!!!
There is virtually no dish i have tried here that i haven't liked-but i don't pretend that if they raised the prices that i would return-cos i wouldn't!!!!!
But for the price its at a sustainable level!!!!

Wholely agreed that Karahi King is rated in my best books. Dont expect West End decor, but the food is worth more than the decor.
Service is attentive, non intrusive. Overall friendly service, food made to individual taste at very reasonable prices.
What more could you want for a local restaurant !

De'bloody'licious.
This has got to be the best Panjabi restaurant outside of Punjab. Especially for vegetarians the food can't be compared. Although these E. African clubs have become popular, their food really can't compete.
Value for money- you'll have plenty of change for a tenner (even for 2 of you)
BYO too. What more can a restaurant offer?
Keep your coats in the car.

The food here is good and prices are very reasonable. We've been many times and I would recommend the meat samosas, karahi chicken curry and karahi kebabs. One of my favourites is the aloo paratha. Service is normally quick, although the place can be busy.

I've neen eating at Karahi King for more than ten years ago. It's still lightyears ahead of the typical curry restaurant. It's had two intererior decor revamps since taking it from cafe style, to smart but simple. Then they expanded next into the next door premises.
The semi-open kitchen is still appreciated. You never know what happens in those mysterious back rooms places.
The barbecued meat starters have to be experienced, in particular the lamb chops.
Main courses - the karahi, methi, and saag dishes all real winners. Excellent breads here.
But it has to be said, the quality of the food has slightly declined here. You used to take a mouthful and wonder how food could possibly taste better. It's still good, but not quite at the former heavenly level.
Service can be a little disapointing here. Some of the waiters barely speak English. Great to have cultural authenticity in a restaurant, but that's taking it a little too far.
Rumour has it that the restaurant was taken over. Perhaps that's why the quality suffered. But if you want to know what the original place was like, just head over to The Five Hot Chillies in Sudbury. It's said to be run by the founders of Karahi King. And it tastes like it too!
Thumbs up from Fatty Lo's Disciple.

The person who gave the first review obviously has been eating in the wrong Indian restaurants for 35 years. All of the positive reviews below suggests that this person has no idea what constitutes good indian food. They obviously ordered plenty of food for the bill to come to £60 without alcohol. £15/head is very reasonable. Anyway it's great food at a great price.
