Woodlands

6 of us went to woodlands in Panton Street to celebrate a friends birthday. The food was superb, some of the best South indian vegetarian food i have ever eaten, very very fresh food and great flavours. Service was very attentive and staff had a lot of knowledge. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Its no surprise that they have been around for 25+ years.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for and I thought Woodlands was good value for money.

Called in ad-hoc for dinner- ordered two thalis - reckon tasted tinned peas and very runny and poor quality side curries. Dosa interesting but the other breads were greasy. What they called a dessert in the thali was very disappointing.

And at 17.95 each - very very poor value for money.

Watch out as they add the service charge - then expect a tip.

Feels like a place in decline - like some of the pubs nearby which are pretty shells selling poor quality drinks.

I agree with Kevin Tubby. Woodlands is one of our favourite restaurants and we visit Woodlands quite often. However we were disappointed with the quality of food on our last visit...and most of the staff have changed as well.

Tried to dine there last night. We were put at a table near the door which then seemed not to exists as far as the staff were concerned. Having waited 15 minutes I finally had to get out of my seat and ask for a menu. This still didn't arrive for another five minutes or so. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. In the end we left having spent over half an hour being ignored by the staff.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years now and it was a favourite until now. The staff have all changed recently and don't know what they are doing. I'd advise anyone to stay away.

I ate here with two others on 23 May 2007. The food was very good, although not terribly special, and the ambiance was decent. I was however NOT pleased to have a 12.5% service charge, and THEN for the waitress to tell us that did not include tip, and that the whole service charge goes to management. I felt (since I was in a group and did not want to argue) obliged to add another 10% tip 'for her', meaning I paid a total of 22.5%. Either the mangement is really being shady in how things are going, or the waitress was lying. NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE!!!!

Having just returned from a most enjoyable lunch, the food was excellent, with many varied flavours. I am surprised at how many different varieties of vegetarian foods there are. I am not a vegetarian but we went to this restuarant because somebody who was leaving our company who was a vegetarian and she was "over the moon" with the choice. The atomosphere could have been better, but then we were the only diners for lunch on this particular day. I would most definately consider going back. It was a most pleasant experience.

Friendly and unhurried but professional and attentive service, fresh tasting food with a variety of distinctive textures and flavours, a good and decenly priced wine list, and modern yet comfortable surroundings. Individual dishes were not necessarily memorable in their own right, but when eaten together produced a most harmonious and fulfilling effect. And in a most convenient location. We will return.

I've been there a couple of times and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have authentic south Indian food. the service was good and there was no one standing behind us all the time while we had our dinner. A great place to have a peaceful, delicious meal and not heavy on the pocket either!

I went and was pleased with the service. I don't want people at my shoulder all the time. I ate well, the food had great taste and flavour. I drank well, and i was comfortable while i did it all. I had coffee and paid my bill. We left and everyone was happy. So what if we were there 4 hours!
