Life is a nice surprise - it's funky but at the same time the food is simple and very authentic. It's a modern take on the traditional Japanese dishes, but without any pretentiousness. Some critics mentioned the bare decor - but I think this is intentional and Life is being true to Japanese minimalism. There are also tiny bonsai trees and decorative objects which are carefully displayed in the restaurant. The service is superb - the restaurant has drafted in bartenders from Tokyo specially for the downstairs bar/club area. They also play really good jazz music. There's something very special and stylish about this place. The lunch set menu is exceptinally good value. Definitely worth a visit.

I'm a locally-based Japanese and I'm very pleased that this restaurant opened in my neighbourhood recently. The food here is pretty good - I particularly recommend the Black Cod (Gindara Saikyoyaki), but sushi and tempura are also nice. It's not exactly cheap but not overpriced either. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and cozy, and the staff are generally pleasant and helpful.
