I must say, I really disagree with all the reviews below.

My step brother introduced me to Rase a year or so ago and we have been regulars ever since. I went to Kerala in Southern India at the end of last year and popped into Rasa a few days before my flight. We chatted to the staff about my trip and they spent 20 minutes recommending things to do while we were away on our trip. I left with a list as long as my arm of things to see and do.

The food is reliably brilliant, the duck or crab have to be the best thing on the menu. Rasa is so reasonably priced as well. After returning from my India trip, I must say that the food is incredibly authentic and much like what I ate in India.

If you are not a fan of this place and you would prefer to eat a slap up curry down brick lane, you are not eating authentic indian food. Rasa wins hands down every time.

I sort of agree with previous reviewer. We booked on-line and received a confirmation email. When we arrived the manager informed us that there were problems with their on-line booking system. He did manage to accommodate our party of 5 but we were put near the toilets which wasn't the most auspicious of situations. I must say that the sickly smell of incense was also a bit off putting and made me quite queasy. The restaurant looked as though it had seen better days and could do with a spring clean.

We ordered the 'feast' for £16 per head The feast comprised of a selection of dishes from the menu including pre-meal snacks and pickles, main dishes of hot and mild curries, yoghurt accompaniments and a rice pudding dessert. There was more than enough food and everyone was satiated.

The food was ok, it seemed fresh enough and it was quite different from the usual indian dishes. My daughter was in her element being vegetarian.

Would I go again? Probably not but being a meat eater I would give the other Rasa restaurants a go.

"Hype" is definitely the right word. The food was ok (though the rice was very dry and had stale taste), but certainly not astounding. Waiters were cheerful enough except they kept pointing at our food in front of us virtually poking it, which was a little off-putting. I would not say the food was cheap as we have paid the same amount for a meal with meat or seafood. We opted for the set menu which was fine but I would recommend settling for a starter and a main as this is more affordable, and I should imagine just as filling. One last little thing is the drinks are served in aluminium cups, no thank-you, I'd much rather have a glass, also I'd like to make the decision of whether to tip. I invariably always do but don't appreciate it being put on my bill. Overall a little disappointed after all the amazing reviews, probably won't go back, not because it's bad, but because we live a little too far to justify the travel for a slightly better than mediocre meal, hence the more realistic scores.

I visited Rasa recently for my friend's 30th birthday party. He had booked the back room for 30 people (two tables of 15) and we had a great time.

We paid £20 per head (including tip, not including drinks) and had four courses delivered to each table. There was LOTS of food - we all ate to bursting point, and even took some takeaway containers away with us.

The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and patient. We may have seemed a bit intimidating (30 excited, tipsy people crammed into a small room) but the staff were great. Drink orders arrived promptly, the bill was accurate and waiters were smiley.

I ate at Rasa when it first opened, and recently went back. The food is ok, but not anywhere near the hype the restaurant receives. I wonder whether the proprietor is an exceptional businessman with a good PR.
