i' a big fan of s.indian food and was always slightly disappointed to find that london didnt have a good restaurant serving this delicious cheap veg fare ,dilwana , charwallas are not bad but saravanas food is the real deal,
i'd go there even if we had to eat off banana leaves sitting on a rickety wooden bench on the pavement , the fact that its clean, efficient and welcoming is a bonus ,,,,and i can have a pint with the food too! i'm in heaven

Do you really need to spend money to get good service and great food? the answer often is yes. Well at least so far.
Try Saravanas. I have become a regular visitor since my first visit about 12months back.
Go to this place if you want to experience authentic indian udipi food with great Indian service. Stick to South Indian grub- try their buffet meals, dosas, idli and the outstanding thali. All at a great amazing value.
When you top this with up with an extremely friendly service which is warm and courteous. You can even discuss the latest in movies and cricket. Watch live sports with a great meal.
Does a great dining experience have to be in an expensive, formal, pretentious environment? The answer, thankfully is No.
This place deserves two thumbs up.

This is a really great place.
There are two eating spaces here, a very clean simple tiled cafeteria style and an adjoining pub or bar style room which serves alcohol.
The menu is a comprehensive and authentic South Indian offer such as Uttaphams and wonderful light crispy Dosas. There are several thali choices, and many vegetable dishes.
There's also a fresh fruit juice bar. Healthly and delicious.
Saravanas is only a few minutes walk down from the famous Sabras restaurant. I was personally always disapointed by Sabras. But Saravanas is a real winner.
Also worth adding that this place is primarily frequented by South Asians. It's a great testament to the quality, authenticity and value offered here.
