Ram's Pure Vegetarian Surti Cuisine

I recently went to this restaurant for the first time, with my wife and kids, after regularly going to others nearby. I was really impressed with the warm welcome we received. The dining area was nicely decorated to give it a comforting and relaxing atmosphere. As we sat and decided what to order, it was nice to see the place was full on a week day with families like mine, enjoying their meals. My family and I ordered a range of dishes from the menu, and were impressed at how good all the food was, how quickly it arrived, and how attentive the staff were. I’ll definitely be recommending rams to my friends and family.

Visited Rams July 29th 2011. Heard a lot about it being very authentic, Gujrati homestyle food and that was true, great food. HOWEVER - be warned:

- Service, absolutely terrible. Not through trying, the waiters were trying very hard to keep up but they were clueless. Got our order wrong to start with, and to end with, delivered our doggy bag to take home to another table. In between, a whole raft of other service issues.

This is not uncommon. I visit Gujarati restaurants very often and have not found one where service has been even remotely acceptable. Owners always skimp on training and attention. Service is an afterthought, delegated to students who have never served in a restaurant before.

- Decor and general upkeep. What a mess. Broken floor tiles, bare concrete floor, ceiling peeling away...could go on. Some places can pull off a rustic look, but this was not rustic. The place was just very badly kempt.

- Seating arrangements. Terrible. Philosophy is to pack customers in as tightly as possible.

- Food. Good, but not any better than other vegetarian gujarati restaurants.

Verdict: Not going back there again and sharing my experience with lots of people.

I go to this place regularly and find the food to be great. I often take family and friends to eat here and can't wait for Friday evenings where I often get a take away. Food is good value too!

Not sure about the bad reviews but me and my wife consistently visit this place and we absolutely love this food. Not only is the food great but we have had very good service as well. We are vegetarians and the food range is really good. Most of the times we stick to the Thali (set meals) and its fantastic for the price. Even the other dishes on the menu are tasty and also felt that its less oily/greasy than the other north indian restaurants in town. I would highly recommend this place for food quality and service

I have eaten at Rams regularly for the past 5 years and it really is excellent. I love it . The special dishes that they have at the weekend (such as Locho) are amazing and I love the Urad Dahl. It is my favourite indian restaurant (vegetarian or not) and I have introduced it to plenty of people.
