The Rapscallion

The food was average but they ran out of some items on the menu too quickly. The restaurant was clean but the toilets were smelly. The highlight of our dinner was the table service, the staff were very responsive and pleasant. Overall, I wouldn't go back there, there are better restaurants down Clapham High St.

Went for our daughters birthday celebration on 1st April and the service was excellent. We all had a different main course and all five were fantastic, tasty and unusual. Staff are great and even sang happy birthday and presented our daughter with a big chunk of cake complete with candle. Would recommened this restaurant but probably should book, we didn't but we were lucky.

Went here yesterday with a party of 8, great food great service great atmosphere. The staff seemed to know what they were talking about and would defnitely recommend a visit. Lovely flowers and cocktails.

Only downside is quite small (so definitely book but this can be anadvantage as well) and also the toilets need refurbing and could have been cleaner.

I used to live locally to Rapscallion. My wife and I used to go there all the time, tonight was the first time back in a couple of years, we we're really looking forward to seeing what was new on the menu and tasting the rich tasty food that we were so used to. Uh Oh, same menu, but the food was awful! One main was sent back due to the fact it was still cold and my main came with potatoes that were cooked back in 2007, poor, poor poor. One saving grace was the service, top class! It's a crying shame to be honest...

I have to agree with Mr/ Ms Plimm below.

This is the best restaurant iin Clapham if you are after honest, tasty food with to die for cocky-tails and fabulous wine list. Many an evening has been spent in this vicinity with friends and many an evening we have stumbled out with Cheshire cat like grins plastered across our faces.

Yes, it could do with a revamp, but rather no revamp and it stay serving more of the same than a flashy decor, new management and loss of Rapscallion.

I love Rapscallion. The atmosphere is casual and classy, the music catholic and always wonderful, never getting stuck in any one genre. The menu is short, which probably reflects the size of the kitchen and is therefore a wise strategy. Every dish on it that I have tried is superb. Staff are friendly and attentive, and there is always a stunning architectural arrangement of flowers on the bar. You sense that here everything has been done with passion and care, making you feel more at home here than in the other more commercial-feeling bars in the area. Far and away the most convivial bar in Clapham. A bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, a serving of blackened cod and a couple of friends in Rapscallion is the combination for a perfect evening.

Had dinner here mid-week in July, with a couple of friends. Overall I'm glad we went, but I wouldn't rush back, mainly because it was very expensive (for a non-central London venue).

The food was good (I had sea bass for main), but not outstanding - and my starter arrived cold. The chairs aren't particularly comfy and the setting is quite cramped. Unfortunately we were right next to the entrance so kept getting blasted with cold air from outside as well.

On the positive side, service was very good, as were the cocktails (but again, pricey!).

We have always liked this place and have visited it since it opened circa 10 years ago. We came last night just for drinks which as always were great and could'nt help noticing that the place needs some TLC.

The floors and furniture are worn the skirtings are dirty the loos have had some work done but need more. Its still a great spot but its losing its position because it needs a good lick of paint.

Not many were eating last night at 10ish when in the past it would have been rammed. I would suggest this has something to do with the deteriorating decor.

Food was lovely and beautifully served. The staff were extremely polite and service was prompt. The place is pretty tiny and the tables are quite small and the atmosphere can get rather smoky which is unpleasant but other than that, I would recommend this place for a night out.

What pleasure. Sat at the bar talking to the best barman I have ever met - called Colin - and drank some of the best cocktails I have tried, including the West End. Really. I was truly impressed. The food was also recommended to me by Colin also which I tried. Very impressive. Starters were excellent - had some wontons and some really flavoursome squid. I then had an incredible cod dish to follow while my girlfriend had some excellent lamb. I have only just moved to this area but have tried a lot of the other places in this street and in the Old Town and they just don't compare. Really impressed. Will be back. Jack
