Another very memorable night in Hadley House. The food was excellent as usual and the change in the menu was very refreshing. Also had a Sunday lunch there recently and was just as impressed. I find it hard to believe some of the reviews on this site as my experiences have been fantastic. Keep up the good work guys!

Just returned from the restaurant with my wife and parents. Had been to the restuarant under previous owners and so will give an honest comparison.
Under new owners, the menu is more adventurous and, yes, a little more expensive.
But what does the food taste like? In short, excellent. We all had three courses and enjoyed all of them. Much better than the food we'd had under previous owners.
What amazed us was the lack of customers. Maybe previous reviews talking about the cost ? It's a shame that a restaurant this good should be struggling to attract customers.
If you live anywhere near - give it a try - you won't be disappointed

Dined at Hadley House for the 1st time on Saturday Oct 5th 2008, to celebrate being with my partner 5 years. Table for 4 (took 2 very close friends)
Busy but not over crowded. Pleasant atmoshere, with friendly and efficient staff.
All i can say about the food is.. WOW! Every dish was fantastic (and none of the goup had the same dish during any course, so we therefore sampled a wide range of the menu)
Wine list was relatively short but very well selected. The sweets and cheeses were out of this world.
Overall the evening was top notch! Keep it up guys and girls, you're onto a winner!! We'll be back.. soon

Had a very pleasant if indeed somewhat pricey meal here last week - the food was tasty, well presented and fresh, especially my partner's bass was perfectly cooked and the venison i had was also very good. the menu offered plenty of choice without being overwhelming - it also didn't try to please everyone and we thought you could see the chef's style coming through very well. overall we experienced service as friendly if not the most efficient I have seen. the wine list was good.
i notice this place has some very mixed reviews here, so consistency may be a problem? anyhow, we had been to the restaurant before and have always liked it and still do and will come back to see if we can replicate this positive dining experience with the new hadley house team.

Having previously been a regular diner here, my wife and I were shocked to find standards had declined so much since the change of ownership. The new menu was both less interesting, less extensive and far more expensive than before, and the roast lamb which I was reduced to ordering due to the lack of enticing options was quite the worst meal I have ever eaten. I ordered it to be cooked rare to medium, pink at most, and upon being served the overcooked end of the joint, not just grey but hacked into chunks rather than sliced, I returned it to the kitchen. I was then served something which may have been meat, though I remain unsure: some fat, along with something that may have been the poor animal's diaphragm - whatever it was, neither knife nor fork could make any impression on it. "This is AWFUL!" I announced loudly, and sent it back again. In the end, I made do with the roast beef, which was marginally better though still lacking in taste and quality. I was offered no refund, nothing off the bill, not even a drink by way of compensation. Clearly, the new owners have decided that those of us who live out east are just mugs who'll accept ludicrous price-hikes and won't notice how poor the food is. That they are mistaken can be confirmed by the drop-off in custom: where before we would struggle to find a table on a Sunday, the place was now deserted. And we weren't the only customers sending our food back, either. Just shocking! Even Gordon Ramsay would be hard pushed to make a success of this dump now. What a shame.

As the menu at hadley house clearly states that the bread served with the mussles is sour dough bread not soda bread like this gentlemen seems to believe this comment is both inappropriate and wrong. I am a regular at Hadley House and i am grateful for the change of ownership as the standards are much higher.

i had been here before and didn't know that the place had changed hands until i visited. compared to before, prices are somewhat more expensive but the food was far far better and everyone in our party of four enjoyed their dinner. fish was cooked to perfection and desserts were splendid.
service was friendly and while not the most efficient did not detract from the overall experience. it's nicely refurbished and much classier now.
it's a bit expensive to be a regular for me but for a special treat i will be back for sure and think it's good value for money.

went for the first time last week since the re-opening. food definately much much improved compared to previous visits. the prices are up, but not unreasonable. service was friendly but not terribly efficient and they could not answer a question i had about the wine - hope that will improve as they go on. i'll be back to check it out again.

Went last night for the first time since it changed hands. Previously we were regulars.
What has changed? They've lost the ambience, the personal touch, the slightly chaotic approach that made the old HH what it was. The staff didn't know the menu, so a starter of mussels and soda bread (good combination I thought) turned up without the bread. We were then told that they didn't have any soda bread. Take it off the menu then....not good. I sent it back, to much consternation. At these prices it needs to be right I'm afraid.
Later, on the cheeses - "artisan English" - appeared with no explanation of what they were - again, the norm is to explain. The staff don't know the menu. All in all, a nervous, choppy experience. However, on the upside - the skate and the lamb were fine.
I'm afraid HH has lost what it was it is off my list. I think they are going to blow it and in 2 yrs or so it will be another vacant unit.

came here for the first time following the recent refurbishment. On the plus side, the service was good - polite and efficient. However, the ambience of the original hadley house is sadly lacking and the standard of the food, whilst ok, is not as good as before and not worth the prices, which is a real shame as I always felt Hadley House was a great local place
