Eastern Tree

Let's first begin by saying that this is not a Chinese restaurant, but a Vietnamese restaurant, and a fine one at that!
I emigrated to London 5 years ago, and couldn't find a proper bowl of Pho, until I stumbled upon the Eastern Tree on Coldharbour Lane just over a year ago. The location is not your first choice for great food, and the interior has changed little from it's previous occupant (a pub) but don't let any of that put a diner off.
This is the place to go for anyone looking to find authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The quality of food is excellent. I have sampled a number of dishes, but am biased towards a tasty bowl of soup and I've tried all of them on the menu. Not one is disappointing. All bowls of 'Pho' are accompanied with fresh garnish (sweet basil, mint, lemon wedge, sprouts - differs from soup to soup), the portions are very generous. the service is very hospitable - Ben is more than happy to explain any of the dishes on the menu from the ingredients to how they are prepared. All dishes are prepared fresh - so some take a little longer than others to serve. Be patient. Have a cup of green tea, or an Iced Coffee (highly recommended) and an order of Summer Rolls to start.
Most importantly though is the price. It is very very reasonable. I eat here at least once a week, if not more. A starter (summer rolls), tea or coffee, and a large bowl of Pho for under £10.
I have yet to find another Vietnamese restaurant in London that can compete with the excellence of the Eastern Tree.
