Average. And its not cheap so it was a fairly disappointing experience. I'm willing to bet the good reviews on this site are written by an older crowd. I think we were the only people in the restaurant under 35 when we went on a thursday night. They definitely need to play some music as well like others have said. It was fine when we went as there was a large table of people which gave it a bit of atmosphere but it could have been a bit depressing. Its also a bit weird that you have to have 2 courses at least. We spent £85 for a meal for 2 and it wasnt worth that in the slightest, I've had much better experiences elsewhere for the same price. My boyfriend was originally going to take me here for my birthday and we were both glad he hadn't!

Sorry But having visited this place just a few weeks ago I can state without remorse that the whole evening was dissapointing.

Food was average, service too fast..I say this because we were almost pushed out and felt as if we had to hurry.

Did not go for the rather expensive but cheap wine list and we all agreed that everything in this eatery was non discropt, you really could not work out were Italian fitted into the menu and was therefore a bit of a confussion, maybe it should be called Mediterianan food because that would be a much more fitting name.

In all I did not enjoy the place I found it expensive for what it actually is and really the cook and the waiting staff should get their act together whilst we were being speeded off others were waiting for an hour or more .. Really bad show will not go again

I cannot believe all the rotten reports by some of the reviewers I see here. We found the restaurant staff warm ,friendly and incredibly helpful. As for the food it was superb and we enjoyed every mouthful , as did our guests . I could not reccomend this delightful place more highly .My husband , who is not easy to please , loved every mouthful every moment we spent in this lovely place .And who wants music ? It was a pleasure to be able to chat in comfort with our guests without having to strain our ears . I love music but not in restaurants. Good choice ,not to have customers resenting to have to listen to music not of their choice. May you go from strenth to strength .ROS K.

People I really dont understand the attraction that you can possibly have for "Phillpotts Mezzaluna". This is a poncy, rude, cramped dive - my 4 year old daughter can cook better, serve better and be more authentic that the expensive rubbish they serve in this place.

Learn to cook Mezzaluna ...or better still actually visit italy and take some cooking lessons, you might actually learn to do something right rather than just depend on the poncey name of the resturant, to get customers in

Quite right Walter, never heard of an Italian restraunt, owned by British guys, serviced by russians place is a joke I waited over an hour to get served - North Londons best kept secret my foot - it should stay as that secret!!!!!

Im sorry but whoever wrote this review is talking utter rubbish or must be a friend of the owner, just like the resturant, which is bland, talentless and not Italian so I wish people would stop call it such.

Expensive and unfriendly, cramped and uninviting, I could not wish this place on my worst enemy

The most rubbish, the nmost unfriendly, and the worst food you could imagine, run buy british partners and totally rubbish staff - dont go there it will put you off Italian food for life, considering its basically fish and chips with tinsel on top, nothing new, nothing good , just bland and expensive like their service

Time after time we have visited Philpotts Mezzaluna and have never had a bad experience - some places have good or bad days. We never find this here. The menu, although not typically Italian, is inventive, tasty and changed frequently to accommodate seasonal food. Service is efficient, prompt and cheerful. We can recommend Mezzaluna and know that most foodies will have a great meal.

I have to say that giving this resturant yet another chance last week, I really do regret the fact that I even bothered. The service was still good,( very storm trooper and fast, but not very friendly) ho hum.. you cant have everything you say . The food was still pretty much overated and not what I would pass as being italian not even modern italian.(more modern english I would say) Personally I foound the place even more noisey and irritating than last year, and the prices not really in tune with the times. In short this place is pretenious, overbearing , and pricey for north london, and if it is north Londons best kept secret it can stay that way. Because the less anyone knows about it the more this resturant will learn how to cook. In its defence the only part that I would say is good are the ingredients which are fresh, ..but thats it
