Sushi-Hiro

I agree with M.Alani.
Very fresh food and......I think that is all.
If you compare this restaurant to places like Yo-Sushi then yes, it is an outstanding Japanese speaking restaurant. (tho they did try to speak as much English as they could, give them credit for it)
Portion is very small, why is it such a small portion?
I always dislike the idea of paying in cash at the restaurant cause that is how some owners get away with paying tax in full. I'm not saying thats what they do at Sushi-Hiro but lacking the choice of paying by card seems a bit suspicious.
I had sushi in Japan before, and this restaurant only averge, especially let down by their costumer services. (In Japan they are more polite and always keeping a smile on their face!)

I am Japanese,so I missed Japanese food so much during my stay in London, then my friend took me there.
It was actually unbelievable.I've been to some Japanese restaurants in London&Brighton, but they were all "fake",not real japanese food.
but at this restaurant, fish is so fresh n tasty, and it wasnt that expensive at all.
as I am Japanese,I do not want people to think that our food is like one at those chain restaurants,if u really wanna eat japanese food,i mean sushi, then go to this restaurant.or,,,simply, come to japan!;o)

Went there on a Sunday night with my boyfriend as I found this place in the Time Out Cheap Eats Guide. The patrons at the restaurant were mostly Japanese (I guess it's a golden rule that a restaurant is 'authentic). We were given a clipboard to choose our meal which was fine because we are familiar with what we like/don't like (so if you don't know what tako or sake is, better ask). Everything on the menu(except the miso soup I think) is cold, so don't expect hot noodles or rice. We choose a mix sashimi plate (12 pounds), crab roll (3 pounds) and a mixture of nigiri (salmon roe, fatty tuna, etc). When the sashimi plate came, it was quite .... small... There were maybe 12 pieces, each sashimi slice is no more than an inch long, cut almost paper thin. The tuna was cut uniformly rectangular (which asthetically, I did not find pleasing... almost unnatural). We both finished the dish in two bites. Although it was quite small, the fish were quite fresh so I guess that was good. When our next platter came with the rolls and nigiris, it was again, quite small portion. The crab roll was disappointing as they use the 'fake' crab meat and very very tiny. The other nigiris were unmemorable although the fatty tuna was quite fresh. The whole meal came to 30 pounds which as a meal, would probably fill one person not two (we were still hungry at the end). So I don't think it is a place that should be in the Cheap Eats guide, unless you have a baby-size appetite. We will probably not go there again.

My friend and I ate nigiri, sushi rolls and inari and only spent £26. An absolute bargain for what has to be the best sushi in London. The inari was divine - I have never tasted inari like it. Having eaten at Roka and Nobu I would highly recommend this simple but superb restaurant to anyone that wants to experience the best sushi in London.

This is a little jewel hidden in the heart of W. London. The fish is bought at a nearby Japanese fish market (I own a restaurant myself).
Perhaps not everone knows that sushi restaurants send their 'buyers' to get the best cuts of fish (they pay a premium price) the rest is for the Europeans.
A word of advice: the more English is spoken in a traditional restaurant, the less traditional the food will taste.

Sushi is outstanding, I have eaten at well known and very expensive sushi restaurants but they cannot compete with Hiro Sushi. The best sushi! If you decide to go book in advance and do not forget to withdraw some money as they only accept cash. Last orders are at 9pm so try to arrange an early dinner in order to enjoy your meal!

Don't know what M.Alani is on about, went yesterday it was outstanding. The sushi was better than almost all "fancy" london sushi restuarants, and the service was very friendly.
There aren't many places around that serve Toro for 2pounds....
Outstanding.

sushi hiro had been the number one sushi place for me for about six years now, unfortunately this is not longer the case. They never had the friendliest of staff, most couldnt speak a word of english apart from ''ukay'', in time I learnt what to say for them to understand me (which should never be the case in any restaurant). In the past year, sushi hiro seriously downsized their portions and I mean seriously! to the point were I would have half a piece of prawn on top of my sushi rice, fooling myself that being a regular loyal customer would pay of when I voiced my concerns. Nothing changed...even worse their fish was not the same quality it used to be, thinking it was a rough patch and all restaurant go through them, I was surprised to see that the next time I order their portions were still not only tiny but very poor quality. Talking to them got me nowhere, it was a take it or lump it situation, so I left, upset at how they treated the situation and in search of a new sushi place.

I love Sushi-Hiro. And I can't recommend it enough to you.
The sushi here is top-notch stuff. OK the place is quite small, ambiance is typically minimalist and non-descript, and last orders are at 9pm (closes at 9.30pm). But this is about the food and it is not only fantastic but great value for money: £35 max for a big (16+ pieces) sushi selection with a beer and a miso. I've been lucky enough to eat at a few famous sushi places like Nobu and Matsuhisa in LA and I can honestly say that for great fresh sushi this place stands up proud among them. You might wonder why this place is not in the west end, I certainly did, but you can be sure that if it was you'd be spending £60+ a head. So it's well worth a commute. The fish is fresh and difficult to find delicacies like Toro (belly of tuna), sweet prawn and scallops are all available. Remember to call and book in advance as it gets busy. They also do takeaways to the same standard, if you prefer. Once you've had your sushi here, you'll become a regular and you'll never ever go back to the Itsus or Yo-Sushis of this world. Hiro raises the bar on what you should expect from a sushi meal.

They really pay attention to the details at this place. When you order a beer, it comes in a frosted glass. All the sushi and sashimi is sliced to perfection. The master is so exacting that I once saw him throw a huge tub of rice away because it wasn't quite right (all the customers gasped in admiration).
