I have been to the Star twice since it has changed management. The food has been excellent both times. One week I had homemade pie (yummy and huge!) and a couple of weeks later haddock with chips. Probably the best fish and chips I have had in ages - really light beer batter. So well done... a hidden little gem at the weekends for lunch. x

The Star has changed ownership/management and we went there with our two children yesterday evening for the re-opening. It was great to meet the new owner and the staff and everyone was very friendly. We had three different starters and I can't remember last time I had such fantastic food in a pub. It's seasonal (asparagus, samphire, broad beens, lamb, etc.), the dishes are extraordinary and it tastes seriously good.

We always felt welcome there and liked the atmosphere. It's great to have such a local pub and we can't wait to go back to eat the main courses.

I came in here with my bird after we had trekked about trying to find a boozer that looked half decent. We had left The Lord Palmerston and we eventually stumbled across this place.

Upon walking into the pub and approaching the middle of the bar we both heard someone tut behind us followed by an 'excuse me'. Upon turning around we were greeted by one of the 'too cool for school' bar staff plonking some dirty glasses down that he had collected. Usually dirty glasses go near the end of the bar, but no he couldn't be bothered to walk to the end of the bar. So we had the pleasure of ordering drinks surrounded by bowls of left over pistachio nuts and spittle ridden empty pint glasses. Isnt it funny how you go somewhere with the best of intentions but almost immediately someone or something just rubs you up the wrong way? London Rage...

Any road, the hippy chick behind the bar was lovely and she suggested some really strong cider - so I supped that while the missus had a gin and tonic.

We didnt stay to eat as i was still smarting from the hung over barman tutting because two patrons who hadn't seen him were stood at the bar and were effectively preventing him from plonking down empty pint glasses.

To paraphrase Ian Brown, I wont see you in My Star.
