Having owned my own establishments and being a reasonably accomplished chef, I feel qualified to share my experience with others. I have visited DFly twice during the last three months with the same people as my guests. My first experience was excellent. Good quality live music and excellent cocktails before dinner. An attentive head waiter and a flexible kitchen which offered food to order off the menu. A very enjoyable culinary experience at a reasonable price.
Based on my first experience, I booked for a very special Birthday dinner with my same party including my daughter and was looking forward to the same great evening as before. Money was no object. What a disappointment! Saturday night and the place was less than half full. The entertainment was a doubtful DJ with doubtful music. Cocktails were great. Table service was excellent. We made a special order for the main course which was accepted without question. The Sushi and Sashimi starters were excellent.The ravioli was a quick knock up. The main course for two was fine, for the other two, complete disaster. We ordered soft shell crabs and received ONE SMALL CRAB BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE,legs for one and body for the other. Without consultation the dish was replaced by a very handsome sea bass arrangement, but of course was not what we ordered and by this time half the party had finished their food and the moment had passed, so the bass was rejected. The atmosphere of the occasion was deflated.
The bill naturally had to be negotiated. The asking price for the meal and drinks was around 290 pounds for cocktails, 4 starters and 2 mains.
The bill was finally settled at 150 pounds. The special evening obviously ruined.
My conclusions are that they offer food they cannot produceand should have informed us at the time of ordering that this was the case and given the opportunity to order an alternative. General standard of food is excellent but I don't think I will be using it again. Maybe they should consider some customer service issues. Disappointing after an initial great experience..
