Went for a meal on Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy and service terrible. Not as terrible as the food though - onion soup which was mainly bread, plastic cheese and too sweet, a very well done steak which was supposed to be medium rare and although described as fillet on the menu it was not a fillet, salad with no dressing and unripe, bitter tomatoes. Venison and dauphinoise potatoes came to the table as venison and mash with no explanation or apology.
The only upside is as the restaurant was busy it had a nice atmosphere.

Pleased to discover that Montmartre which used to be in Essex Road has now reopened in Theberton Street offering the same mix of good value bistro food and relaxed atmosphere. The seabass, one of my favourites, was as good as before and there are some to-die-for desserts which are good for your palate if not your waistline! There's also a comprehensive wine list and the bhouyse wine is reliable and good value. Welcome back, Montmartre!
