Hugo's (previously Organic Cafe)

Hugo's is a stalwart of Queen's Park and they play a great range of soothing Jazz music, though the customers tend to be at the older end of the QP crowd, however the atmosphere is young at heart. Service is attentive and homely, if a little short. I last went to Hugo's in 2004 and enjoyed the food immensely, however in 2006 perhaps a change of chef has caused dishes such as favorite 'Mediterranean Fish Stew' to come out made using farmed salmon, mussels and carrot. Not London's best 'organic', perhaps it's jazziest. I'd go back, but not to eat.

Each time we have visited Hugo's, we have had a fantastic meal and sensational service. I completely disagree with the negative comments that have been posted. The food has always been beautifully presented and very tasty, their mussels are to die for. Another positive is the live jazz which is played on Thursday's and Sunday's.
We will continue going to Hugo's, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

On previous visits to Hugo’s I was impressed. I considered it to be a nice local restaurant with a nice atmosphere. However, recently I have had several bad experiences there
The final straw came a couple of weeks ago when my boyfriend and I went down there for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were on our way somewhere so went in to check that they would be able to serve us reasonably quickly. Somehow there was a misunderstanding and the waitress assumed we had ordered two breakfasts. However, whilst my boyfriend was intending to have the meat breakfast I had not even decided what I was having! We sat down and 10 minutes later two meat breakfasts arrive. We explained that we had not actually ordered anything yet. Somewhere along the line there was a misunderstanding and I don’t blame anyone – it’s just one of those things. However the waitress was very dismissive and just walked off with no apology even though this was partly her fault! Then we actually had our order taken and I ordered pancakes. We assumed that these wouldn’t take long to prepare. However, after a further 25 minutes the order hadn’t arrived. At which point we decided to leave because we were going to be late for our appointment. I found the service completely unacceptable and I am not going back! I have given the place too many chances!

I had stopped going to Hugo's because of dissatisfacion with service, food and prices, but on each of two ocassions recently I have enjoyed both the food and the service. I had fish on both visits - salmon the first time and most recently a smoked mackerel dish. Both were excellent, and washed down with a perfectly good House white. The bill for two including service was £40-45 (no desserts or coffee). The atmosphere is very pleasant and there is often good live jazz.
