i eat at jee's/jee cee neh restaurant very often- once every week if i can!! i live in reading and it is a shame that my favourite restaurant requires an hour drive, when i get a craving :( it is really worth it so i don't mind to do this option.

the waiters and waitresses are very smily, friendly and helpful with your meal- such as grilling meat for you if you want them to, stirring your rice bowl and refilling the free barley tea frequently without you even asking them! :) there is a really wide choice of traditional korean dishes, they taste as good as i ate in seoul so they get 10 out of 10 on that. same as in korea, you get a minimum of 4 side dishes, with a bowl of chicken soup with each meal. as you might be aware, the majority of korean restaurants in england like to charge for each side dish!! which is why it can be expensive to eat because what is korean food without loads of tiny bowls surrounding the main dishes?! the chefs vary the dishes daily and i have never been dissatisfied with any of them (except acorn jelly! blah) :)

you usually will get kimchi, cucumer kimchi, egg and tofu/soy potatoes, potato salad, acorn jelly or spinach/beansprouts in sesame oil.

my usual order is a perfect amount for me and my boyfriend who both have big appetites. we always leave feeling satisfied and craving for more (i'd like to add that is not from msg through! from it's deliciousness). the bill has never been over £35 and i have never felt it was not worth every penny. it's cheap compared to alot of places!!

£35 including service charge gets us: 12 fried/steamed mandu (dumplings) (these come with nice soy sauce too, you can get them steamed for cheaper than fried); 1 giant kimchi pancake (kimchi pancake comes with a yummy dipping soy sauce); 1 big sizzling plate of dak kalbi (spicy chicken and pepper, onions, mushrooms); 1 big dolsot bibimbap with beef (YUM!!!!) (rice- beef and veg, raw egg, pepper paste all stirred in sizzling earthen bowl); 1 large portion of tteokbokki- spicy rice cakes with tofu, veg, and egg (these are to die for!!) about 12 rice cakes.

then the complimentary dishes/drinks at each meal are 4 side dishes, bowl of chicken soup, unlimited tea, and the juiciest orange for desert. i often wonder how come korean restaurants have such tasty oranges and i've never tasted anything like them. if you ask for refils of kimchi, they are happy to provide yet again for no extra cost.

even when the place is packed eg saturday nights/sunday lunch, it is a great atmosphere and you are never left hanging around waiting. service is extremely quick! some people have a problem with all the food being brought as it comes but that is how koreans do it and it's a good, close way to eat by sharing all the dishes as and when you want a bite.

all the times i've been here it is usually filled with just koreans, but don't worry they won't laugh at you if they see you being bad at chopsticks :) it is a friendly place. now they have a hired a new waitress who speaks perfect english which is even better for the people who have trouble ordering (or just point at the menu if you get stuck!)

well i could bang on about here all day long :) but you should go and see how good it is for yourself. it would be very hard to find fault with this restaurant, from the service and taste. this is authentic korean food served in the korean way. always an enjoyable dining experience!! :)

ps- to the wine complaining man- get a life!! did you go out to drink fine wine, or eat food?! try ordering the korean wine or soju!! or try and eat one meal without feeling that it simply HAS to have a good wine with it.

Had a great meal at Jee's last night. All the dishes were very good, especially a spicy pork dish the name of which escapes me. Staff were very friendly, attentive and happy to take time to offer advice. Would certainly not hesitate to eat here again. Whilst not cheap, coming to £20 per head, it was worth the money.

I think the other review is very unfair. I recently ate at Jees with my family and there were 8 of us in total. We found the waiters to be helpful and courteous and the dishes were delicious.

Some of us ordered the mixed BBQ and the waiters checked on the food regularly to ensure the meat was cooked properly. I am sorry to hear about the bad experience the previous reviewer had. However, from my own experience I would not hesitate to eat there again.

I wouldn't dream of going back after experiencing the worst ever meal of my life there a few weeks ago.

The service was rude and tardy - only one waiter spoke English - the menu was utterly over-priced and the wine list unbelievably bad. Only one white (a rough French number) and one red (some disgusting mouthwash from the house of Blue Nun (I kid you not) were offered each at a staggering £17 a bottle!

But if you think that's bad wait until you hear about the food... We opted for the mixed barbecue which the over-stretched waitress kept forgetting and managed to burn so badly all our food had to be replaced. Then the bill arrived – in Korean! By this point I’d just had enough and wanted to get out so didn’t kick up a fuss. Suffice to say it was a staggering rip-off – over £120 for the four of us.

There are loads of Korean restaurants on Burlington Road and I would definitely check these out based on some of the excellent reviews I have ready. But I would only recommend Jee’s if I truly hated you.

p.s. it used to be known as Jee Cee Neh until recently.
