I went along to Melati last week after reading the reviews on this page. I was not disappointed.
Sure, the service could have been a little faster and the decor needs updating but the food is absolutely delicious. Really powerful flavours and very, very tasty food. The Beef Randang and Garlic Prawns were probably the best I've ever tasted. When the bill came I was astounded at the value - about £25 a head for a huge amount of food.

I was looking forward to trying this Malaysian restaurant, but was unfortunately disappointed. The starters we had were really good - the chicken satay came with a good peanut sauce, the roti canai was great and the sauce with it nice and spicy. The mains were a real disappointment though - the mee goreng and other noodle dish we had were both really bland, which is the last thing you expect from this kind of food. The service was good, but we wont be returning.

I booked this restaurant on the basis of the reviews here but was actually disappointed. The inside looks very tired with signs of water leaks etc on the ceiling tiles.
The dishes were overly greasy and the chicken curry contained lots of splinters of sharp chicken bones which was really quite unpleasant. To top it all during the meal a waiter was crouching behind the bar to eat a McDonald's without being noticed!
Would not recommend or return.

lovely roti canai (bread with curry sauce).
Nice service. We went there for lunch and although in the middle of Picadilly, it's an oasis of calm. Too many dishes too choose from the extensive menu. That is the only complaint. But the dishes we ordered were nice, maybe a bit too oily...
I would go back there though.

I went with my boyfriend to melatis on a tuesday night. He gave me raving reviews about it after a friend had introduced him to it and said i must try it so i did. The food was exquisite. I really enjoyed dining there. I think its probably one of the most tastiest food that i've had in this country. We had the roti and the garlic chicken for starter. The mixed rice and lamb for the main.
I highly recommend this restaurant.

I must agree with all the reviews below.
After trying hard to find a decent priced Singaporean/Malay place, I found Melati to be absolutely perfect.
Although mainly Malay dishes, the waiters recommended the Singaporean dishes which were superb.
The soup was excellent, as was the Satay chicken starter. Although a bit spicy for me, the waiter was on hand to rush water to me when he saw I was about to burn.
I have been to many restaurants in China Town, and have written many reviews on this site, and this has to be the best overall restaurant in London for me.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere and impeccable service. Great night out.

I went to Melati with a couple of relatives who are vegetarian. Unlike most places there was a HUGE range to choose from. We had veggie sate (believe it or not it actually tastes good). Chilli Prawns, Hot and Sour Seafood Soup to start. For mains we shared some fried rice and fried noodles (not sure what they are called), with Red Snapper in Chilli Sauce and Soft Shell Crabs.
The food was outstanding. Loads of variety, theres a couple of hundred dishes on the menu. The venue is homely and the staff seemed polite and efficient.
I'd recomend it to anyone, can't wait to go back and try the meat dishes!!!

Booked on a busy Saturday night and although they were very busy and it was hard to accommodate our additional unexpected people in the group, they did everything they did to fit us in as other guests left, split our bills, and remembered everyone's meal choices.
The meal was absolutely delicious and very well priced with great variety!! This would have to be one of my favourite restaurants in London!!

I have been going to Melati for over 3 years, having grown up in Malaysia and now living in London I find this to be the most authentic Malaysian restaurant around.
Excellent food, superb service from the mainly Malaysian staff - its great to be able to ask questions to staff who know and appreciate Asian tastes as oppose to someone who have never experienced Asia 1st hand.
I recommend the favourites such as Nasi Goreng, Laksa, Rendang and if there is anything you don't see then ask Jackie, she will always do her best to please.
To me this is as close to Malaysia that you will find in central London - so top marks for food, atnosphere, service and all washed down with an authentic and delicious Tiger Beer!!

Recently I was in London with my 15 member choir from Canada. After a long week of performances and touring, we opted to have a final meal together in a restaurant with intersting food. And when we happened upon the Melati, I called for a reservation for an after-theatre attendance, arriving at about 11 pm. The staff made us very welcome, and were marvellously helpful. (thanks also for the 'no-smoking' room.) The food was thoroughly enjoyable, making our final evening in London most memorable and pleasant. Thanks!
