Have eaten here on many occasions in the past and last nights fiasco was the last time. Arrived to see note on the only due to line failure...once inside told no alcohol...change of owner being cited as the reason. More likely no licence.

The food was poor..satay with no vigour, industrial sauces, soft shell crab ok but the garnish was atrocious. Sent the noodles back...beef that used to be employed in a shoe along with dollops of sour soy paste, not all that attractive.

My nasi goreng was the worst I have ever seen. A mush of rice, frozen peas and the ubiquitous sauce.

They cancelled the noodles from the bill. Service gentle and polite at all time but the kitchen has worked its last evil in my mind.

Stay away. Nice new noodle house across the road...maybe that is why only 10 covers there in a three floor place that used to have a queue outside.

Avoid. A once great place to eat now dire in all respects. The restaurant needs to take down the signs that declare it is still joined with long ago closed Peter Street restaurant and the accolades of many years past. The food was either burnt or lukewarm the lamb was just this side of cooked on the satay dish and the garnish cold and uninviting. The decor is tired and gloomy the table tops covered in floor tiles! The toilets, though clean and airy, have industrial cleaning towels and a range of down market soap dispencers, Tesco value range anyone? Third world experience at a first world price. The tatty menus should have been a warning - many wines just crossed out with a pencil line!

Having dined at Melati many times, tonight we felt like malaysian/indonesian food and was extremely disappointed and shocked at how the food has gone down hill here. Firstly we ordered the indonesian soup it came and tasted like water with vinegar. Me and my partner had a one spoonful each and left it. The main course we ordered the lamb curry which was ok. We also ordered the sea bass in chef's special sauce, which came with no sauce, it came with some sweet chilli paste on top. Food is not cheap here and definitely not worth the money. Won't be returning again.

Pathetic. Im a Malaysian and this place is not value for money. I think all Asian/Malaysian restaurants that try to be fancy and do fine dining overseas suffer from this. Unfortunately only Malaysians can realise this while the Caucasians are being duped out of their money. Plain white rice for almost £3? For such meager portions? Wow. I guess the rent there is too high. No wonder it was empty during dinner time. Good luck with your business. I need a second dinner now.

Served by Zaidi - 10-05-13 - total bill = £50

The food came out cold - all the dishes except rice.

The Sate Chicken & Lamb worth trying - great spices.

Service was slow, but the waiter was fantastic, helpful for ordering the dishes and patient. decor needs an update, but overall staff were very friendly.

Watch out 10% service charge added to bill.

Average prices for West end, below average food though.

This place is absolutely dreadful. The waitress was rude and unfriendly, she kept playing the same song over and over again. We asked her to stop putting the same song on repeat but she just said that she likes the song. Food was bland. I asked for coconut rice but was given plain. When I complained she sullenly took the rice away. Was gone for about 15 minutes all the time my main dish getting cold on the table. She eventually returned and plonked down a fresh bowl of plain rice. Not a word of sorry. Will never go back here.

Visited last night with a group of friends, one of whom had been before and raved about the place. Hugely warm welcome from Jackie, most of us dispensed with the menu and just asked her to bring us something good. It did not disappoint. The food was amazing even the odd sounding 'aubergine and anchovy' dish which I was reticent to try at first being a hater of both the was out of this world!

I will definitely be visiting again soon.
