Patogh

Limited menu but great food at a reasonable price.
VERY intimate seating (we had to move our table twice just to let customers in either side), but atmospheric all the same.
Overall we were quite happy with food and service until the bill came and they tried to overcharge us by £20.

We enjoyed our meal at patogh Restaurant W.1 on Wed last ! And found the restaurant surprisingly busy for late evening ! The menu is simple and the portions are big but the food was freshly cooked and tasted fine ! Presentation could be improved but the service was good and the staff very friendly and helpful . This old established eaterie appears dated and rather uninviting inside and with little atmosphere ! Only good value.

I have been regularly eating at Patogh for almost 5 years now. I use to really like this restuarant, the large portions of buttered rice, the tender kebabs and the amazing bread... It even made the cramped seating, rude staff and long waits worth it!
I would best describe my relationship with this one as a love/hate relationship.
I hate the decor, the embarassing queues outside for up to 50 mins in the cold only for the waiter to be rude and unfriendly.
I love the food... well mostly the bread. All props but its still the best bread in London.
Then i realised that (asides from the bread) most Persian food is of the same quality being quite simple in its cooking and that its initial attraction was only partly due to the extortionate arabic/lebonese restaurants in the direct vacinity of Edgware Road. Compared to these Patogh was refreshing.
Last week i even booked a table in advance. Turned up and they told me to wait outside as i was less then 5 minutes late.

A gem of a restaurant when you want good food, my husband has been going to pautogh's since he arrived in london years ago, and when his friends get together they always go there.
After hearing so much about the place I was very shocked to enter the small little restaurant the first time i went there. It was full to the brim and had people queing for a table. Tthe tables were basic and packed in. I was soon to realise apperance are very decieveing, the food on that day and for the past 4 years still remains freash and tender and delicious, the staff are always helpful, and you soon realise the premises make the whole experience very intimate and enjoyable, even our two year old son who is very fussy eater loves it and finishes the food on his plate. food is well priced and all halal, and the sauces on each table mean you can spice up or calm down your food to suit your taste.
in summary very very great basic good food, the only bad side is sometimes you may have to wait awhile for a table, but definatly well worth the wait.
If you want a safe bet on good fulfilling warm up yout tum tum food patoughs the place to go.

We booked a table for two, based on the positive reviews on this site. When we arrived we were given a table in a corridor, with people constantly passing by and brushing past our food. Waited a long time for service which, when it came, was surly and uninterested. I asked if I could have half rice, half salad instead of one or the other, but the answer was a very grouchy no. At that point we paid for our mediocre starters and left. Yes the bread was good but everything else was hugely disappointing. A very unpleasant dining experience.

This place does good food, very cheap and BYO. Service is also friendly.
The highlight is the fresh flatbread, lamb kebabs are full of flavour of a bit fatty and chewy. Ultimately though, I have been there a couple of times and I struggle to see quite why it gets the rave reviews.
There are other places in town, especially this part of town, or the turkish areas, doing very good grilled meat and fresh baked bread at low prices, without the queues and cramped interior.

Yesterday afternoon i was looking for a good place to eat out with my couple of friends because it was my last dinner with them as I was going back to my country for good so it has to be some place good so I visited this website and read the reviews from people and decided to go and check it myself....
We went there at about 8:00 pm and it was almost full. Anyways we went upstairs and there were 6 tables in 2 tables each group... we checked the menu and ordered Marinated Lamb with rice which was £11 but for starter we ordered Special Naan (Bread) £2.50 with Hummus £2.00. Because I have heard if you want to see a good restaurant try Hummus.... Anyways the Bread was delicious and Hummus was not so bad either. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. It looked Great with one lamb kebab and one lamb seekh with decent amount of rice for me and one of my friend and my other friend had salad which for non salad eater like me was too much....
We enjoyed the food so much but the place was a little small which for me was not a bad thing because it brings out the cosyness and family environment. At the end we paid the bill for 3 people £40.50 with Drinks Included.
The staff was very friendly and Food was Halal. When e came out of the Restaurant there was a queue and people were waiting to be seated and start there experience.
I just loved the whole experience and it really was a good time out......
I would really recommend this to anyone who is a little tight on budget and still wants to eat good food this is a place for you.....

I will be visiting again. I'll be honest, although I heard great stuff about the place, and read great reviews, the look of the place doesn't look great, and is situated on a dreary side street off Edgware Road. However, once i went inside it seemed quite pleasant. Although small, its rather cosy and there was a real feel of authenticity and warmth. I did visit this place on a weekday at about 1pm though, and can only imagine how packed it must get on Saturday nights!!
I saw how huge the mains were from a nearby customer's plate so I skipped the starter. The food came very quickly, and the staff are very friendly. I ordered fillet cubes of marinaded lamb with a huge flatbread (and i MEAN huge) which you can order with rice instead of you wish. You also get a small bowl of minted yogurt to eat with your food. And a tasty side salad is also provided, and it's a lot bigger than your basic 'salad garnish'. The lamb was amazingly lean, with no gristle or fat AT ALL (which is a first, seeing as lamb is normally quite fatty) and don't think they provide a load of salad and bread with a junior helping of lamb-there's loads. And this meal only cost £9!
I'd recommend this place to about anyone. Not really a place to take your girlfriend to for a hot date, but great for a casual meal and light on the wallet.

This restaurant was recommended to me 3 years ago by my host when I was on a holiday in London. Been to London on 2 more occasions since and everytime I made sure to go back to Patogh. I can strongly recommend this restaurant because of the excellent food and the reasonable prices. Last time I had a main dish, a side dish and a soft drink for about £16. Not bad for London standards if you ask me, especially since you get large portions. Mind you, you don't go to this restaurant for a romantic dinner with candle light, this is a simple place where you go to for a good meal. Paghot seems to be a place to me with many regular customers but I never had the feeling that I'm not welcome as a foreigner/tourist. Again, I can strongly recommend this restaurant.

Very enjoyable meal, if a bit squashed! Very small premises, be prepared to get cosy with your neighbours on a busy night. Food however was fresh, well prepared and very tasty ,and the portions absolutely enormous! (A word of warning; do not go overboard on the bread and starters unless you want to be rolled home!)
Service was friendly, albeit rushed, and the decor had quite an authentic middle eastern feel about it. Maybe not so ideal for a romantic dinner a deux, but it's good just for an evening out with friends, and it's BYO for wine, which keeps (already reasonable) prices down.
