Fujiyama

Food was poor. Spring rolls were blatantly not homemade, with virtually no filling and the dipping sauce was basically plain soy. Gyoza were not much better with undercooked pastry- al dente really isn't the way forward here.
Mains were cha han, yaki soba and yaki niku don. All boring and very poorly executed. You would expect some fresh veg in yaki soba, for example, and the noodles were overcooked. Seasoning or taste? No Jose.
Price was 36 pounds (the above dishes plus three juices) in total which included a 10% service charge- since the food was crap, service is irrelevant, so I won't go there. No idea how they retain customers.

Fujiyama is my favourite restaurant in London and a favourite place to take people who've not been before just to see their reactions as they tuck in. The prices are very reasonable, as are the portion sizes. The menu is extensive, with each section usually listing mild variations on similar dishes, but working your way through the menu is a pleasure.
The sushi is gorgeous as are the other dishes and the strong taste of the constitute ingredients coming through the sauce is a great sign of their freshness. It also means that even fairly standard, simple dishes have a little extra to them making them taste even better.
The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get and the staff are efficient, yet not rude despite the assumed 10% inclusion of service charge.
I just wish this place had some sort of loyalty card.
Personal favourite? Hard to say and keeps changing, but currently the Curry Udon.

I've been there twice. The restaurant is located in the wonderful brixton area, alive and full of people. Good choice of japanese food, the quality is OK and very good value for money!
The first time the service was very slow but the second time was fast and friendly.

I don't understand why people loving this place so much.
Canteen quality food in Canteen like restaurant.
Ok value for money for japanese food standard in london, but nothing special at all.
Miso soup was lacking of flavour, and sushi rice was way to wet.
Not agreeing with any of the review.

I live in Brixton and eat here almost every week! I've tried Ichiban a few times but prefer Fujiyama. I've tried most of the things on the menu and pretty much everything is good - especially the ramen and udon soups (karai chicken and shake ramen especially), oyako don, eel nigiri, and the chicken katsu curry is a guilty pleasure (most of the menu is pretty healthy but this is real comfort food). Not such a fan of the angel fish curry noodles. The fresh juices are good too, as is the spinach side order.
It's true that the service can be variable, but it's scatty rather than snooty. I'd definitely recommend it for a laid-back meal out - also a friendly place to eat alone without hassle or pitying looks. Probably not a great spot for a romantic date though (for you or those sharing your table).
Excellent value and good quality fresh food - not like the pre-prepared, vacuum packed food at some noodle chains I could mention. If you like it here, try Satsuma in Soho as well - a bit smarter and wider selection.

Having lived in Japan for 4 years, discovering Fujiyama has been an oasis. I love the whole menu, the soups, the main dishes and the sushi are just superb! And even better you can order it as takeaway. If you have a large group of friends then it's worth booking the tatami room upstairs, where you can all sit cross legged whilst you eat - Japanese style. The portions can sometimes be really large, so you don't need to spend heaps of money ordering lots of dishes. The layout of the tables reflects the authentic style of the Japanese Isakaya, however, what is missing is the electronic key pad for tapping in the your order and the quantity you require, which saves time by going straight to the kitchen.

I've been going to Fujiyama's regularly for about 6 years. All the food is fantastic and according to a Japanese friend, very authentic and doesn't cost the earth. Sometimes, the waiting staff gets orders incorrect, which is my only criticism. The selection of sushi rolls are great and very varied. Ramen soups and dumplings are highly recommended.

This is a recent find for us, we stumbled upon it one Saturday lunchtime and in despareate need for a beer and some food we took a seat at the bar and had a very convivial time sharing bits and pieces over a couple of beers. So when my sushi craving hit again we went back. I suppose the bench tables cheap noodles lure some people in for a pre-cinema fuel-up but my partner and I shared some really delicious sushi (the soft shell crab rolls were especially good). It was busy but we had no problem with service. If I have any criticisms they are that mobile phones really should be banned in there - when sitting at such close quarters with people you don't know when eating it would really help to not have to listen to their life story. Also I would replace the crab stick in the california rolls. But apartfrom that good atmosphere, good sake, great sushi.

I have visited Fujiyama twice recently with my first ever visit to Fujiyama being on the Tuesday. I returned again with a group on a Sunday.
We actually headed to Brixton looking for Tsuamni but Fortunately - judging by the reviews of the food - we didn't find Tsuamni (as its at Clapham North), and instead the helpful flower seller outside Brixton tube directed us to Fujiyama.
The restaurant is canteen style, similar to the Pepper Tree (Clapham Common) or the Banana Leaf (Clapham Junction/ Battersea Rise). If you have eaten there, and been happy, you'll be fine with the seating arrangements at Fujiyama.
I'm not an expert of Japanese food, but have eaten it often over the past ten years through my travels. I've been mostly disappointed on what I've found in the UK, but Fujiyama was very good. Freshly made, good tasting, and much better than what I was expecting as from a Brixton restaurant. The bill on Tuesday came to £18 including service charge, and was for 24 pieces of sashimi (3 types), three soft drinks, and a juice (we did order two juices, but one never turned up). Pretty reasonable for London. The only downside was the service was disappointing; the staff were very distant/apathetic, and our drinks slow to arrive, with one drink completely forgotten - unacceptable considering there were almost more staff than customers. The female waitress seemed more interested in flirting with the guys sitting around at the benches (who weren't eating or drinking so were visitors rather than customers).
The third bill on Sunday was £70 including service charge for 2 glasses of wine, 3 soft drinks, 2 beers, a bento box, fried noodles, 3 servings of dumplings, half a dozen nigiri and 24 pieces of sashimi. Again the food was wonderful, and my friends were very happy with the food (including one very deprived sushi addict from Ireland) but the service was actually worse than Tuesday. After serving our drinks, they left us sitting for half an hour waiting to order even though we kept trying to get the waiters attention, the starters arrived with one person's main, and most of the remainder of the meal arrived twenty minutes after that. I say most as they forgot half of the sushi order, which took a further fifteen minutes to arrive after we chased it up (a second time).
In short Fujiyama has great food, but the service is, to be blunt, not good. So long as you have plenty of time on your hands, and don't mind repeating yourself to ensure you get the right order, you'll get to experience some great food for a reasonable price.
