We can't believe it - Cafe de Maya is closed. The sign in the windows says they will be opening a new restaurant in St. John's Wood at the end of August. We will certainly miss having the friendliest and best neighbourhood restaurant right on our doorstep - but the new place is not too far away. Hope there's space for that CD collection!

We love this restaurant. The food is good quality and certainly comparable to anything we tasted in Thailand, and the prices are very reasonable. The decor, although not trendy and upmarket, is definitely different to anything you will see elsewhere (most of the art is the work of the manager I believe).
The service is faultless - possibly the friendliest restaurant in London.
One downside is the sometimes loud and brash customers, but then this is right in the middle of Primrose Hill!

After visiting this restaurant over the years I simply must applaud the owner, the chef and the staff. They provide wonderful food, Nasi Goreng, Sizzling Beef, Singapore Laksa to name just a couple or so personal favourites, in a warm relaxed atmosphere. Everybody receives the same warm welcome and the service is excellent. There is a limited wine list, but the owner Marcus always produces a good wine.

Over the past few years I have spent many fullfilling evenings at the Cafe de Maya. The food is fantastic, the service is efficient, warm and friendly. I can throroughly recommend one or two of my favourits: Singapore Laksa; Nasi Goreng; Sizzling Beef.
The wine list is not extensive but the owner always offers a good selection. As rather a lot of oriental food eaters believe, it is best to have tea with the food to allow the wonderful taste to rest well on the palate. Personal choice - one can always have both.

Awful-please avoid at all costs. The "Thai" fish cakes were deep fried Chinese processed fishcake roll, the Thai green curry had frozen peas in it and no discernible lime juice or fish sauce (perfectly obtainable and cheap, authentic ingredients), the Beef Penang was brisket more appropriate for long stewing than stir-frying and was so chewy that it was inedible (so we didn't!). At least they graciously took the beef off the bill...
If you want cheap Thai or Chinese food in NW3, you will get far better food from any of the places on the Finchley Road. Cafe de Maya is just amateur and not worth anyone's money.

It is a great local Thai but don't go expecting wonderful decor. It is local and quirky and the Thai Green curries and Thai fish cakes are fantastic. Great value for money - very cheap. Been time and time again.

Without doubt one of the best restaurants in London. Everyone we've ever taken here has demanded to be taken a second time (and a third...). This is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant everyone wants in THEIR neighbourhood. The salt & garlic squid is addictive.

The other reviews here are misleading.
I took my girlfriend out for dinner here and was very disappointed. Our starters (chicken satay skewers) were unedible (literally disgusting!) as was my desert. Generally the food was just not fresh enough. The couple on the next table actually walked out after only tasting the first course!
On a positive note the main courses (I had thai green curry) were very tasty and good value. Also the service was reasonably good.
It is a bit cheaper than your average Thai(not much), but the quality suffers as a result so I don't consider it value for money. I would not recommend this place and won't be returning.
