Long live Lisboa!!! Best cafe in london by far!! It's cheap in price but certainly not cheap in taste! Try the great 'galluha' of portobello road. For years i have been buying birthday cakes there (man they are so yummy!!) and i am now happy to say that they are also now in Camden!! Altho the vibes are a little different from west london. The staff are a miracle themselves as the place is AWAYS packed and altho they may be at times frustrated with customers taking ages to decide, they are trully amazing!!! The only shame is that there are hardly any seats in or outside.
So go and discover one of london's best kept secret! But get there early and Enjoy!

We've been going to Lisboa for years and always have the same problem - deciding what to have! The coffee is excellent (far superior and cheaper than the stuff found in chain-stores) and the croissants (in particular with ham and cheese) are exceptional. Of course, we haven't even started on the cakes........ with all the crowds (both Portuguese and otherwise) and atmosphere, people watching etc, it really feels like you're in Portugal.

You can find better cakes in London's Lisboa than in Lisboa itself! Just be kind to the people behind the counter, and you'll be rewarded.
Excellente espresso, sandwiches and custard tart, the Pastel de Nata.

This is a portuguese café and patisserie (not French as mystifyingly claimed higher up this page).
Excellent Portuguese coffee for one.
Wonderful custard tarts among a host of cakes ranging from almond based wafer thin biscuits to rich cream tarts. Spectacular cakes available on demand for occasions such as exuberant Portuguese baptisms, weddins, birthdays, etc.
Savouries also available.
Overall, the cuisine is refreshingly unsophisticated, and more party oriented.
Which matches the clientelle, which is jolly, animated, talkative, and with a rapid turnover.
The quality of this place is amply demonstrated by the fact that you have to get there early or be willing to wait in a queue in the doorway and out onto the pavement.
The Lisboa is just the cafe. Opposite and next door you'll find the portuguese food shop, and portuguese stationary and papers shop serving the large local portuguese community.

Fantastic place off Portobello, you go past the various Morroccon and Algerian stores selling tagines and cooking equipment and all the old guys hanging out with coffees shooting the breeze, you get to lisboa whihc will be heaving with more Portuguese old folk, fmailies, hipsters and the travelling gourmands in search of something authentic and sweet. The custard tarts are what people come here for here and are phenomenal and very, very cheap. Milky caffe au lait is around 80p and they serve it to you frothy in a glass, a great atmosphere.
Take some time to explore the area and look at the other ethnic cuisines on that stretch of road. There is also a hot food stand opposite which seemed to be serving up lots of very yummy smelling Middle Eastern food to the local muslims.
