Bar Gansa

I wouldn't be as effusive about Bar Gansa as the reviewer below, but certainly it offers good, hearty, well-cooked day-to-day tapas (if you want more slightly more adventurous stuff then go to El Parador, which is really very good). Great laid-back atmosphere close to the teeming hordes of Camden Market, and charming service. We'll be back.

I went here on a Saturday night with a group of friends and it was a very enjoyable evening. The tapas selection was extensive. The food itself was very good and well presented. Staff was very friendly and lively. The music could have been a few notches lower as it was a bit difficult to talk, but all in all we were very satisfied. We will certainly go back.

I'm afraid I have to agree to disagree with the below review!
I first went into Bar Gansa for a drink, and couldn't get over the standard and price of the cocktails, nor the range! The Italian guy who makes them is simply legendary :)
Next time I went, I had a range of tapas with friends, all of which was divine - and although the dishes looked slightly more expensive than I'm used to (at Midlands prices!) in fact they were equally as big in size, and well worth it. We had a good range of vegetable dishes too, as one of us was a veggie - for about £12 each, we ate like kings. And don't even get me started on the desserts - to die for!
The waiting staff are lovely, and I'm still amazed at how friendly the place is, when lots of London bars can be pretentious and cold - I even got chatting to a couple who were asking about the cocktails, which hasn't happened to me anywhere else in London in the last year. From the regulars perched at the bar to the really eclectic mix of music (not all Latino) and the fact that there are barely any english accents in there at all, this really is a great place to spend an evening.

Initially, the service was good. However, I felt that the quality of the tapas was somewhat poor (the food came suspiciously quickly - reheated?). There is an assumed 'tip' of 12.5% on the bill which I didn't feel inclined to pay in its entirety. I suggested to the waiter that I'd like to leave a tip in cash form - not to have the tip size assumed for me. However, the waiter was patronising about the issue - for example, telling my girlfriend: "Tell him that 12.5% is normal in London".

The bar's easy to get to, easy parking at night and its Monday night flamenco show is always packed out. It is a small venue and the tablao can barely accomodate the performers.
The food is average (it is pointless comparing ANY tapas available here in the UK with what you get en Andalucia..), expensive, considering the basic nature of it and wine prices are absurd.
It's a good place for a beer or two whilst watching the flamenco show on Monday. Though be prepared to stand right in front of the performers or you will not hear them because of the racket made by the punters, most of whom seem to fail to notice that there is a performance on..

Great restaurant, the food is fantastic. I have a villa in Spain and I can say that this is the best tapas I have tried. So many differing options available. Whatever your taste you will find it here. Strongly recommend!

Fantastic place and fantastic food, I went there last week and I agree with the other reviews on how good the food is. The last guy that said the food was not good I would have to disagree, I also go to Spain alot as my partner is Spanish, she loves the food too. So there you go!

Went on a Saturday night, atmosphere was great and so was the service, however quite disappointed by the quality of the food.
I travel to Spain every so often and the tapas in Bar Gansa is not up to par.
We ordered 10-11 tapas dishes and although the portions are quite big the quality wasn't brilliant...
If you're out for a good time and not fussy for quality food I recommend, otherwise get your tapas somewhere else.

I also must agree with the other reviews on Bar Gansa. I visited it on a Monday night during the Flamenco show, the great vibe is amazing, no one seemed to want to leave as the show was so good, the food was also fantastic, it's the best Spanish food I've tasted and would recommend this place to everyone.

Best tapas restaurant I've been to in London, made even better by the lovely staff, the lively atmosphere and the fact that you can still walk in and get a table at 11 o clock on a Saturday night. The food is truly gorgeous and flamenco night makes it really special.
