Worth going for the service alone. Quite a find to discover a Japanese restaurant where the staff are ALL (even the Chef, who opened the door for us as we left) obliging and quintessentially Japanese (though they might be from HK, as someone suggested here).
Great fried yellow-tail maki, and I love the traditional cafe-style setting. Worth the trip up to GG!

Not as good as Jin Kichi. It's packed and the service is mediocre. They should expand the menu to more non-sushi dishes like ramen and vegetable tempura. Limited menu, but pretty good value.

We went to Cafe Japan for lunch last Sunday. Absolutely fell in love with this restaurant. It was filled with groups of families. Fantastic atmosphere with friendly staff, from its warm welcome at the door to the fresh sushi and delicious salmon teriyaki set. The set meal comes in big portion (for me). I love its side wafu salad that comes with the set, yum! Good price & Great food, I would definitely go there again!

Food is ok, but not fresh. I cant say it is a Japanese restaurant, as most of its staffs are from HongKond... even those chefs... I would not recommend this place, as there are amny real Japaneserestaurants around it.

My wife and I discovered Cafe Japan about 9 months ago and we now eat there every weekend, unless we are away. One of the best discoveries we ever made.
We like its cosy informality and always try to sit at the counter where the proprietor chats to us while he prepares the dishes.
We like the staff, the warmth of their welcome and their friendly helpful attitude. We love the sashimi and I have tried most things on the menu now. We have yet to have a meal that is anything but excellent.
It may seem a little pricey sometimes but then if you want good Japanese food......

My favourite Japanese restaurant in the UK. The service is quick and welcoming, the freshness and quality of the food superb. My 2 year old daughter simply can't get enough of the black cod, the spinach salad is superb, and the sashimi is perfect. Never had a bad meal here in 3 years.

Cafe Japan was a huge dissapointment. Its not the food quality that bothered us, it was the clenliness that scared us. Even though it not completely a sushi place and has some dishes similar to a izakaya, the restaurant eeked. Eaters Beware !!! At your risk !!! the quality of food was not bad,

My wife and I went to Cafe Japan last week. The food really is superb. I'm can't imagine sushi getting any better than this, I certainly haven't had better at any of Ubon, Nobu, Moshi, K10... The Butterfish on the special menu was especially good. You do pay for it though which when this is merely a cafe might rub some people up the wrong way, but that would be to overlook the quality of the food. If you want good value/passable sushi go to Moshi and Yo! Sushi. The family who run it are charming too.

My favorite Japanese restaurant!
I am a regular (at least once a week) and have introduced loads of my friends to it. The food is great, although pricey, staff very friendly and accomodating. I have tried loads of Japanese restaurants all over the world and Cafe Japan is still my favorite.
